Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans should be excited for this week, as Nintendo has announced a new Direct livestream for August 8 to showcase more of what the upcoming fighting game has in store. The livestream will feature game director Masahiro Sakurai and will showcase some new game information for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The livestream kicks off at 7 a.m. PST/10 a.m. EST on August 8.

While no teasers were given for what to expect from the livestream, many fans are hoping that it will showcase a new character for the ever-growing roster. Rumors suggest that Castlevania’s Simon Belmont will join the fight for the first time. While Nintendo did state that they were not heavily focused on adding new characters, the addition of the Inklings and Ridley shows that they are willing to at least add a few new faces.

The Inklings and Ridley make the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster the biggest it’s ever been, as every previous fighter from earlier in the franchise is making a return on the Switch. The announcement of so many returning characters was one of the biggest surprises from E3 2018, and certainly made many fans excited for the game’s release. Fan favorites like Ice Climbers, Wolf, and Snake even made their return after their absence on the Wii U.

The upcoming livestream will most likely show off plenty of new and changed abilities for the immense roster of fighters. Nintendo showed off some of the changes during the E3 2018 reveal, but fans have been clamoring to know how the returning characters have changed since their last appearance. Regardless of what is shown off on August 8, it will most likely just make fans even more excited to get their hands on the highly anticipated fighting game for the Switch.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches December 7 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
