A recent victory for pro Super Smash Bro. Melee player Hungrybox was met shortly after with a raw, dead crab being flung at him from the audience, narrowly missing his head. The bizarre nature of the situation resembles something pulled straight from from fiction, but the event truly did happen during the grand finals of Pound 2019 yesterday.

Reacting to a win from Hungrybox over Joseph "Mango" Marquez, an unidentified audience member apparently did not take the outcome well. While the crab they threw did not hit Hungrybox, he was visibly upset by the incident. After picking up the crab, he proceeded to address the audience, presumably to call out whoever threw the crustacean.

It is not clear what was being said, but it is a safe bet it was loaded with expletives, as Hungrybox later apologized for his reaction through his official Twitter account. The entire affair can be seen in the Twitch steam of the tournament. Another angle of the crab throwing was caught by Twitter user @coneyzz, who captured the exact moment of the incident.

Why a crab? No one knows for sure. Fruits or vegetables have always been the traditional choices when lobbing things at people at public venues. Regardless of this strange choice, the act was not something those in attendance appreciated. The Super Smash Bros. tournament organizers eventually identified the person responsible for the incident and they have been permanently banned from attending future Pound events. The name of the perpetrator was not released publicly, but it was passed on to other tournament organizers.

In other Super Smash Bros. news, Joker, from Persona 5, officially joined the roster for Ultimate last week and is already stealing the hearts of players everywhere. Unfortunately, the character is also stealing valuable game time. For some players, Joker's Final Smash is freezing consoles and forcing them to either relaunch the title or restart the console. It appears to only be affecting this character and no others, which is good news for Nintendo. Hopefully the company will expedite a hotfix to resolve the issue.

In addition to the newest fighter, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also added a new stage builder mode, allowing players to create interesting stages to battle on and share with others. The mode allows players to really let their creativity flow, but does not seem to regulate which direction. As expected, loads of NSFW Smash Bros. stages have begun to pop up. While it is nice to see Nintendo so trusting of its users, the company will obviously need to be more stringent in how the game filters Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stages in the future.
