Today, Director Masahiro Sakurai walked loyal Nintendo fans through more new plans for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, revealing new fighters and stages to look forward to. This includes new echo fighters, and this time the team revealed that Chrom of Fire Emblem and Dark Samus of Metroid Prime will both be added to the game.

Fire Emblem fans had previously been disappointed that Chrom hadn't made the cut for Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U, and wasn't included among the DLC characters that later made their way to the game. During Robin's reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, Chrom even mused that he would get his chance "another day," and it seems that day has finally come. Chrom, fittingly, will be his daughter Lucina's echo fighter, mimicking her flurry of quickfire strikes and sword-thrusts.

Dark Samus, series antagonist from Metroid Prime, also joins the roster as Samus's echo fighter. Her fighting abilities all look to be extremely similar to Samus's, but her design and overall presentation is a bit different. She also lightly hovers over the stage which may mean that she's a slightly lighter character with less of a damage tolerance than standard Samus.

The announcements came alongside a brand new wave of Super Smash Bros Ultimate details. The game looks to be living up to the Ultimate title, with just this Super Smash Bros. Direct revealing over a hundred stages, new assist trophies, and brand new characters like Simon Belmont from Castlevania, as long rumored. The developer has also promised hundreds of audio tracks, brand new stage options, and a myriad of other additions to keep the latest entry to the franchise feeling fresh. With new echo characters and brand new fighters being added to the already staggering roster of every previous Super Smash Bros. fighter returning, gamers should have plenty to keep them busy.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will release on December 7, 2018 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
