There's no doubt that the official announcement of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch caused fans of the long-running fighting game franchise to rejoice and immediately begin speculating about the forthcoming title's roster, as the epic reveal trailer only teased some of the characters that will be available at launch. This also led to lots of folks compiling their own personal wish lists for characters outside of Nintendo-branded releases to appear in the game, with many pinning their hopes on Banjo-Kazooie eventually being a playable character.

One fan in particular was so excited by the prospect of Banjo-Kazooie potentially being added to the roster of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch that they decided to petition Xbox boss Phil Spencer to see if he would be on board with the bear and bird duo – which are now technically Microsoft properties – showing up in the fighting game. As seen in the Twitter exchange below, the user known as "BanjoExe" asked Spencer if he'd be willing to let Banjo-Kazooie appear in Super Smash Bros. for Switch, with the Xbox boss succinctly replying, "Yep."

While this will surely cause many Banjo-Kazooie fanatics to become elated by the thought of the characters being playable in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, it's important to note that this is far from an official confirmation of their inclusion in the game. After all, Nintendo has yet to even openly acknowledge whether or not the forthcoming title is a brand new entry in the series or just a port of the Wii U version.

All things considered, it's safe to presume that there's still a long ways to go before Super Smash Bros. fans finally learn which characters will be in the Switch title, but should Microsoft be willing to collaborate with Nintendo and allow Banjo-Kazooie to become a part of the roster, it's unquestionable that the fighting game will be a must-have purchase for many. Of course, it's arguable that there are plenty of other crossover characters that would stoke the flames of anticipation even more so than Banjo-Kazooie, but for now, it's fantastic just to know that more Smash is on the way.

Super Smash Bros. is currently scheduled to launch at some point in 2018 for Nintendo Switch.
