Nintendo's NFC enhanced toys-to-life platform, amiibo, has been a great way for fans and collectors to showcase their fandom since they first released in November of 2014. The most popular line of amiibo has been the Super Smash Bros. line, which features an amiibo of nearly every character from the roster of over 70 characters.

The roster of characters from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is complete, but fans are still waiting for the full line of amiibo featuring characters exclusive to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Currently, the entirety of the base roster of 69 characters has released, but the DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are still in production.

The first DLC character, Piranha Plant, had their amiibo released in February of 2019, while the Joker and Hero amiibo were released this month. In a recent video showcasing the newest DLC character, Steve from Minecraft, series director Masahiro Sakurai revealed the official design of amiibo for Banjo-Kazooie, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury, and male Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Their release would complete the amiibo for Fighters Pass 1.

After the announcement of the newest amiibo, many fans were curious about when they could expect to see the new line on store shelves. A recent tweet by Nintendo announced a release window for Fall of 2021, much to fan dismay. However, that tweet was quickly deleted, causing even further dismay and confusion than the tweet itself. It it currently unknown exactly why Nintendo deleted its tweet.

Fans are speculating what the deleted tweet means for the future of this amiibo line. It's certainly possible, and probable, that whoever is in charge of Nintendo's Twitter account simply announced the release too early and was asked to take it down. It's hard to pinpoint a reason with the little information we have. We know that COVID-19 has had a massive impact on Nintendo's production, which would certainly bleed into its amiibo products as well.

While fans can only speculate for now, thbey should keep an eye out for any more information from Nintendo regarding the Smash Bros. amiibo. Pre-orders could be rolling out soon and with this marking one of the only ways to purchase official Banjo-Kazooie merchandise, it is definitely possible that we see these sell out, much like the Ness amiibo did when those pre-orders rolled out. It is also currently unknown whether or not we'll see amiibo for the fighters involved in Fighters Pass 2, though Steve from Minecraft would certainly be an easy one to make, according to Sakuari.
