The Super Smash Bros. series has been huge for Nintendo, and the last installment, Brawl, was no exception, selling over 10 million units worldwide since its launch. That's why it was no surprise when Nintendo announced that the next Super Smash Bros. would be coming to both the Wii U and the 3DS at their press conference earlier today.

Many people thought that a Smash Bros. announcement this year would be out of the question, and this was because the series' creator, Masahiro Sakurai, had been working on Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS. That didn't stop the rumors of a new Smash from pouring onto the internet. It has since been confirmed that Sakurai will be leading this giant Smash Bros. push on both devices, and allegedly he is quite excited about the potential that both games have.

Very little information was revealed on the new titles, but Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata did confirm that both games would be able to connect and interact with each other in some way or another. He didn't go into details about what form this connectivity would take, but it's easy to assume that we'll be able to transfer trophies, stickers, and maybe even exclusive items and characters, between the two games.

Smash Bros. is technically the first confirmed Nintendo-made game on the Wii U console, so odds are that it may be available at launch. However, if Nintendo plans on making two solid Smash games that will release back-to-back then they may take their time in completing both versions of the game.

More information on Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS should become available soon. In the meantime, you can check out our conveniently-timed list of the 9 things we want from Smash Bros. on Nintendo's new console.

Are you excited that Nintendo is making a Super Smash Bros. for both your 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U? How do you think the two games will interact?
