The creation of a Nintendo theme park at multiple Universal Studios locations has been a point of excitement for many gamers around the world. Newly finished in its first location, Universal Studios Japan, a video that has surfaced online reveals the details around one of Super Nintendo World's most anticipated attractions - Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge.

First announced in 2016, Nintendo and Universal Studios reached an agreement that has seen the construction of Nintendo-themed parks at several Universal Studios locations. These locations include Japan, the first to be completed, along with Universal Studios Hollywood, Singapore, and Orlando locations set to open in the future. There was a general overview tour given by Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto a few months ago, but this is the first detailed footage of Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge's entire queue and ride.

Posted by YouTube channel Universal Parks News Today, the video begins with an exterior shot of Bowser's (or Koopa in Japan) Castle, complete with the slightly polygonal, steel-like facade present in most Mario Kart iterations. Roughly the first half of the 20-minute long footage consists of the queue, showing various in-game props and items as well as some humorous details. At one point viewers see the use of Super Nintendo World's Power-Up Bands, which are used to interact with certain objects at the park. The latter portion of the clip then shows the pre-boarding video followed by footage of the actual attraction.

The Mario Kart ride appears to call for more involvement on the rider's behalf than footage of Super Nintendo World's Yoshi ride, including a detailed explanation of how aiming items and steering works. The ride is also one of the first to feature augmented reality (AR) technology - a feat pulled off thanks to technology including Mario visors shown in the video. While the actual ride footage was met with some criticism for the attraction's quality, this is more than likely due to a phone camera being sandwiched between the AR visor lens and the person recording, causing the visuals to be skewed.

Nintendo's video game series the ride is based on continues to be as popular as ever. Its latest entry, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, continues to beat its own annual sales records year over year since releasing in 2017. While this could mean Nintendo is not in a rush to make a new Mario Kart anytime soon, it does cement the fact the franchise is continuously growing in popularity.

While most fans would agree Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan looks incredible, the restrictions and risk factors still presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic make actually getting there a tall order. Until international travel gets a easier, fans can always virtually check out the new theme park, as one player recreated Super Nintendo World in Minecraft.
