In Super Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch, players have access to almost the entire roster right off the bat. However, there are four characters that have to be unlocked in Super Mario Party before they can be used as allies or playable characters in the game. Here is how players can unlock Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Dry Bones, and Pom Pom in Super Mario Party.

  • Diddy Kong - Complete Challenge Road World 2 Chestnut Forest
  • Donkey Kong - Complete three different paths in River Survival
  • Dry Bones - Randomly appears in the plaza
  • Pom Pom - Complete Challenge Road World 5 Salty Sea

Whenever players manage to satisfy the requirements to unlock a new character in Super Mario Party, the character will appear on the white bench in the plaza. When this happens, players then have to talk to the character to add them to their group and officially unlock them as a playable character, so just completing the requirements isn't enough to actually unlock the characters in Super Mario Party.

For the most part, unlocking all of the characters in Super Mario Party is fairly straightforward, with the exception of Dry Bones. There is some dispute about what exactly causes Dry Bones to appear in the plaza, though some believe it occurs after earning two gems. Gems are special rewards players unlock in Super Mario Party by fully completing modes. For example, playing all the game boards will unlock a gem, as will beating all the difficulties in the Sound Stage mode. This isn't a confirmed method to unlock Dry Bones, so we recommend players just play the game normally and occasionally check to see if he has appeared.

Players should be able to unlock all of the characters without playing Super Mario Party's online mode, but they will have to unlock every mini-game. That's because Challenge Road, which is necessary to unlock both Diddy Kong and Pom Pom, isn't available until players have tried every mini-game. Mini-games are accessed through the standard board game mode as well as the Partner Party mode, so players should just keep playing until they manage to unlock them all.

With these tips in mind, Super Mario Party players should be able to obtain all the playable characters and enjoy the game to its maximum potential.

Super Mario Party is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
