Super Mario Odyssey has been available for a couple of days now, and it is taking the gaming industry by storm. Earning enough perfect scores to make it the new highest-rated game to date, it's safe to say many gamers will now be looking to add it to their collection. However, others will want to make certain that they will get their money's worth with Super Mario Odyssey, and may be wondering  about how long the game lasts.

According to 38 polled players on the site How Long to Beat, completing the main story in Super Mario Odyssey takes roughly 11 hours on average. The fastest person polled was able to beat the game in just under 7 hours, but it's safe to assume that they skipped almost all the side content and only played enough to get through the story.

Completionists, meanwhile, are looking at about 43 hours of gameplay if they want to find every Power Moon and collectible in the game. To fully complete Super Mario Odyssey, players will need to collect over 600 Power Moons, find all the purple coins in every level, and earn enough gold coins to buy every extra outfit and item as well. Without using a guide, it's likely that fully completing Super Mario Odyssey will take even longer than 43 hours for most players.

It's clear by this data that Super Mario Odyssey is one of the meatier Super Mario games out there, providing a wealth of content for players to explore. As we pointed out in our Super Mario Odyssey review, the game constantly provides reasons to revisit kingdoms long thought conquered and has plenty of well-hidden secrets to uncover. In short, it will take dozens of hours before players run out of things to do in the game.

The data from How Long to Beat backs up these claims, so anyone that buys Super Mario Odyssey should be reassured that their hard-earned cash is being spent on a game that will keep them busy for quite awhile. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo decides to expand the Super Mario Odyssey experience further with DLC, like it's doing with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
