As if it needed to be said, the video game publisher and developer Nintendo’s forthcoming platform title Super Mario Odyssey for the Switch is easily one of the most highly anticipated games of holiday 2017. Now, fans’ excitement for the Big N mascot’s latest adventure is likely to grow exponentially due to the game having already received its first perfect score review well ahead of its launch later this month.

As seen in the image below shared by “JPickford,” a member of rllmukforum.com’s message boards, Super Mario Odyssey‘s first perfect score review comes from this month’s issue of EDGE, with the outlet giving the platformer a 10 out of 10. Although most of the text is obscured in favor of displaying the final score in the picture, it looks as if the multi-format video game magazine is elated by the title’s ability to “[take] big risks with an established formula” and have them “pay off handsomely.”

Interestingly enough, this month’s issue of EDGE was originally supposed to be sent out to subscribers at this point in time, but the magazine had to be delayed in order “to accommodate an exclusive embargo.” However, the publication’s subscribers ought to have the issue quite soon, and apparently Super Mario Odyssey is actually on the cover.

As it so happens, Super Mario Odyssey isn’t the first Nintendo Switch title to have received a perfect score from EDGE, as the critically-acclaimed action-adventure title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was also honored with a flawless grade. So, bearing all of this in mind, while the Switch’s list of exclusive titles is still relatively slim, with the majority of them having been deemed excellent products by countless critics, it will be interesting to see if Super Mario Odyssey winds up continuing the trend with all of its reviewers, which would help support the notion that the Nintendo Switch is an essential purchase for gaming fans.

Super Mario Odyssey is slated to release on October 27, 2017 for Nintendo Switch.
