Nintendo continues to release free mystery mushroom costumes for Super Mario Maker as the latest event course lets players unlock a new one for Yamamura the Pigeon.

One of the more interesting features of Super Mario Maker is the ability to use Mystery Mushrooms to change Mario's appearance into other familiar characters and even some random ones like Foreman Spike from the old NES game, Wrecking Balls. Nintendo continues to expand the available costumes in game for players and this week, players can clear the new Event Course to unlock Yamamura the Pigeon.

In order to unlock Yamamura for general use, players need to simply beat the latest featured Event Course. Doing so will unlock a brand new mystery mushroom featuring the Mario branded bird for use when creating new levels.

So who is this mystery pigeon? Quite simply, Yamamura is a pigeon with Mario's iconic 'M' on his chest. In the game's fiction, he is essentially a pigeon who helps Mary O. teach the player how to create levels in the editor, while also being a master level maker himself. Though how he was able to do that is beyond reasons of understanding. Oddly enough, Nintendo goes on to add that he is a fan of edamame and long walks on the beach. Yamamura and Mary O. can also be seen in the Crash Course online comic from the Super Mario Maker website.

Nintendo has been busy these past few weeks as the game has received a number of updates including new mystery mushroom costumes of Birdo and the Excitebike rider to name a few. The influx of new character costumes kicked off earlier in December with the three Links from Tri-Force Heroes and new Event Courses becoming available.

Like their messy third person shooter, Splatoon, Nintendo has been continually delivering new content and updates to Super Mario Maker, keeping the player base happy with new items to play around with such as checkpoints,  the ability to stack powerups, and the introduction of official Nintendo levels in the Makers section of Course World. More importantly, these updates won't cost the player a single penny as Nintendo has opted to give players smaller updates for free rather than large and pricey expansions.

Would you rather Nintendo release a massive downloadable content pack for a cost or do you like seeing these very small but free updates added to the game? Let us know what you think down in the comments below.

Super Mario Maker is now available, exclusively for the Wii U.
