Now that the Super Mario Maker 2 release date has come and gone, level builders the world over are hard at work putting together courses of all shapes and sizes. While a number of these Super Mario Maker 2 levels are quickly rising to the tops of the charts, many others are sitting without any plays, and some builders may be wondering why that is the case. Indeed, it is this phenomenon that this Mario Maker 2 guide looks to address.

After putting time into constructing Super Mario Maker 2 levels, builders will, naturally, want others to experience their handiwork. However, in order to start getting widespread plays on a new Mario Maker 2 level, players may need to do a little extra work to get that very first play on said level.

More specifically, it appears that unplayed Mario Maker 2 levels do not enter the pool of possible levels for the Versus and Endless Challenge modes, which is where user-generated courses can begin accumulating serious plays. Instead, unplayed levels are only discoverable through the "New Courses" tab, and while some fans focus on playing the levels found in this section, the sheer number of Mario Maker 2 courses being uploaded means that many will sit without plays for quite some time.

As such, builders that find that no one is playing their levels in Super Mario Maker 2 can choose to wait until their creations eventually get plays, through the "New Courses" tab, or they can seek out someone that is willing to give their courses a whirl. Indeed, it appears that getting a single play, and, preferably, a like, will enter a level into the rotation for Endless Challenge and the Mario Maker 2 Versus mode, allowing the play counts to snowball on these courses.

Players that want to expedite getting plays on their courses are thus advised to directly share the Course IDs for their unplayed levels with friends and other community members. Online forums, like the Mario Maker subreddit and GameFAQs, offer opportunities for level exchanges, which some builders may find helpful in this regard. That said, once the initial fervor surrounding the game's release subsides, levels may get played more quickly through the "New Courses" tab, but, until then, this seems to be the best method to pursue.

Super Mario Maker 2 is now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
