Not every level created for Super Mario Maker 2 is excellent, but fans seem willing to tolerate this, as the title was one of the most downloaded games of 2019. Because the well done creations are so brilliant, fans continue to play the game. So when a creator makes an entire Nintendo Direct presentation in a level, all the bad levels just seem to fade from memory.

Give players the tools to create and perhaps the next Miyamoto will emerge. Super Mario Maker 2 turns the act of game creation over to players and the results are equal parts amazing, and maddening. For every clever reimagining of Duck Hunt, there are thousands of levels with randomly placed blocks, enemies falling from the sky, and pipes and doors to nowhere. This, however, is not one of those levels.

This level takes the form of a Nintendo Direct presentation, slowly scrolling the screen to present exciting new happenings in the world of Nintendo. Doug Bowser welcomes viewers to the showcase, and from here players are taken on a journey through a Direct presentation. The level makes a tongue in cheek Breath of the Wild 2 announcement, and also makes use of the Legend of Zelda items in Super Mario Maker 2 which added a lot of value to the game when they were introduced back in December.

Super Mario Maker 2 has given fans the tools to build their own versions of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the creativity employed truly has no bounds.

Well before Super Mario Maker, Nintendo drew up plans - and filed a patent for - a piece of hardware that would allow players to edit and/or create their own game way back in 1994. The standalone hardware would allow players to pause a game, access editing/creation tools, build new game assets and then continue playing with the new level structure intact. This patent may not have been acted on, but the idea of giving creative control to players led to Super Mario Maker, and now fans are using that control to build some fascinating levels.

After the positive reception to the added Legend of Zelda components to the game, fans are now positing what other characters and power-ups could be added to the Super Mario Maker 2. If Nintendo continues to support the game with updates, fans may just get their wish. Perhaps they will find out in a (real) Nintendo Direct.
