The first Super Mario Maker had all sorts of secrets and Easter eggs for players to discover, and fans have already begun to find hidden content that can be used in custom levels in Super Mario Maker 2. That said, some of the things that players have discovered so far are not being embraced by the community. Even though Super Mario Maker 2 launched just today, the game has already begun to stir up controversy, among the fanbase, thanks to an unreported limitation.

Level creators in Super Mario Maker 2 have discovered that the game only lets players upload 32 custom levels at a time, with no additional ways to increase that number. This discovery has led to a lively debate, on sites like Reddit, where some of the playerbase is extremely upset about this previously unknown restriction. Part of the issue stems from the fact that, in the previous Super Mario Maker, players could increase the level upload restriction from 10 up to 100 if the their uploaded levels received enough stars from those who played and enjoyed them.

The other underlying issue seems to center around the fact that Nintendo no longer provides its online service for free on the Nintendo Switch, which is quite different from what the situation was with the Wii U and the original game. Paying for a service, and getting less out of it when compared to its predecessor, isn't sitting well with many on Reddit. Either way, arguments have been made that 32 level slots won't be an issue for most players, but it's likely going to severely impact those dedicated and hardcore level designers.

Fans are hopeful that Nintendo updates this rule at some point in a post-launch update, similar to how the company currently plans to fix online matchmaking for friends who want to play the game together. Downloadable content was a major component of the original Super Mario Maker, which saw new features like checkpoints and character costumes arrive after it had launched. This time around, fans are hoping to see new themes added, to go along with the newly added Super Mario 3D World, along with consistent updates and improvements.

Super Mario Maker 2 is now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
