Super Mario Maker 2 was first announced for Switch a few months ago, via a trailer featured in a Nintendo Direct. Ever since, not much has trickled down regarding updated gameplay features or similar details, though the trailer does hint at added aspects like an improved user interface. However, some images on Twitter of a new poster found in some Japanese retailers indicate what may come to the game.

Posted by Twitter user nira3333, there are six images that depict some created levels within Super Mario Maker 2 that hint at new objects and features. According to the pictures, one very notable new feature is the ability to seemingly make levels in space, aesthetically similar to Super Mario Galaxy. They appear to play like water levels, given Mario's position mid-jump in the photo.

Additionally, the ability to make jungle-based levels seems to be present in the game, as well as enemy placements like Meowser and Charvaaghs. The latter additions are both inspired by elements of Super Mario 3D World, which was previewed as having an influence anyway, as per appearance of the Cat Suit in the game's initial announcement trailer.

While the images aren't of the best quality, the content is nonetheless discernible and are representative of the game's core content and additions to the Mario Maker series. A fourth image in nira3333's initial tweet displays a Super Mario World-themed level containing Bullet Bills and otherwise mysterious enemy types. The two images added later by nira3333 also show a Super Mario Bros. 3 level bearing four ominous dangling claws and a New Super Mario Bros. level in editing, complete with Mario dressed up in his Cat Suit.

While it would be interesting to see Nintendo release a 3D Mario Maker game altogether, similar to the Super Mario 64 Maker fan game, the more influence Super Mario Maker 2 takes from the entirety of the core Super Mario games, the better.

Super Mario Maker 2 is set to release June 28, 2019, exclusively for the Switch.
