There are various versions and spinoffs of the famous, Super Mario Bros. However, hardcore Nintendo fans cannot resist the original 1980s game. Players watch the very first Mario as he defeats enemies and bosses to save Princess Toadstool from Bowser's captivity. Players can play with both Mario and Luigi in multiplayer mode. That's right; Peach is not the only princess yet.

Throughout his journey, Mario defeats many enemies that players see again in other versions of Super Mario Bros. However, there are some characters that never make it back. Below are some of the characters who actually die in the game and have never been revived.

10 Antasma

Antasma Mario

Bowser is not the only main villain in the Mario games. Antasma is another major villain alongside Bowser in Super Mario Bros. This evil king-bat-ghost character makes his first appearance in the level Dream Team.

Mario and Luigi think that they have to battle both Bowser and Antasma in Dream World. However, Bowser wants the castle to be all his. Enraged, Antasma flees to another part of Dream World. Mario, Luigi, and Prince Dreambert defeat Antasma. Suddenly, he ruptures like a balloon and does not appear again.

9 Cackletta

In the level Superstar Saga, Mario or the Bros. face the wicked witch Cackletta. Bowser, disguised as Bowletta, heads to Bowser's Castle and schemes some evil plans to destroy towns. Mario hears about Bowletta's whereabouts and decides to travel to the castle.

He defeats the guard Koopas outside of the castle and eventually reaches Bowletta. During the fight, Bowletta swallows Mario. He is weak but meets up with Cackletta inside of Bowletta's belly. Mario eventually defeats Cackeletta and Bowser's disguise goes away. Her spirit disappears and never returns. Luckily Mario survives even though he's the one in Bowletta's belly.

8 Dimentio

Dimentio from Mario

The Bros. face the very powerful Dimentio in level Super Paper Mario. He travels from dimension to dimension and changes his surroundings. Seems too powerful for the Bros. right? They eventually form one large ball and shoot it right at Shroob. Angry from this attack, Shroob's two tentacles unleash and attack each Bro. Players control Mario and Luigi as they dodge the tentacles, and eventually, Shroob wears out. Shroob turns into a mushroom and that's that.

6 Fawful

Mario Fawful

The strange character Fawful appears in level Superstar Saga. He says rather odd phrases and is not the brightest bulb. However, he is a tough match for the Bros. Fawful takes the evil form of Dark Fawful outside of Peach's Castle.

Bowser and Dark Fawful battle against each other while Mario and Luigi make their way to them. Bowser beats Dark Fawful and spits out Fawfuls leftovers, becoming Dark Bowser. The Bros then battle both Dark Bowser and the remains of Fawful. Mario and Luigi defeat Dark Bowser and Dark Fawful appears once again. Luckily, Dark Fawful simply explodes and frees the Bros. He trickery ends and he does not reappear.

5 Grandma Mario

Only true fans know about Grandma Mario. She is Mario and Luigi's grandmother and acts as a parental figure to the Bros. She appears in a part of Super Show! and players learn about her life. She is very strict with the Bros. and eventually, they get the help of a psychic.

However, Grandma Mario uses the psychic's body as her own and smacks the Bros. around. She also scolds the Bros. by telling them to constantly clean for her. Eventually, Grandma Mario collapses into a chair and the psychic's body restores. Grandma Mario goes to her grave and the Bros. never see her again.

4 Marco Polo's Plumbers

Mario history buffs must know that Marco Polo hires two plumbers for Super Mario Bros. They appear in The Venice Menace. Mario senses something within his soul but he does not know what it is. One day, he passes by the two plumbers' statues on top of a large column.

Mario rescues Venice from Bowser and a local introduces them to the statues. Mario learns that the plumbers are relatives of him and Luigi. This is why Mario feels something within his soul and saves Venice. The plumbers do not return, however.

3 Prince Mushroomkhamen

Players likely don't remember Prince Mushroomkhamen because he is not a major character. Mushroomkhamen is the prince in Desert Land and remains in a sarcophagus as a mummy. Players never get to see Mushroomkhamen without his mummification, but Mario relates to him.
