After being released nearly 25 years ago, dataminers have begun to discover more and more cut content from the classic 3D platformer, Super Mario 64.
As a result of the recent Nintendo leak, YouTuber Arthurtilly has just discovered an unused enemy type in Super Mario 64 that is referred to in its code simply as a "Moto." This unused enemy type mostly resembles chuckyas from the title, as their main ability is to grab Mario and throw him off of a platform.
Whereas they behave most similarly to the purple chuckya enemies, their appearance most closely resembles bullies from the level, Lethal Lava Land. Their bodies look like a large round bomb, with short stubby legs. But more interestingly, their arms appear sharp like claws and their face is simply two white eye holes on top of its head, giving it a very creepy sci-fi look.
While looking undoubtedly cool and unique, this enemy definitely has a certain creepiness to it that would've surely given us all nightmares as children. The enemy was obviously scrapped for one reason or another, and was possibly unfinished or even just an early version of the chuckya enemies, which are far less unsettling to look at.
This enemy is just one of several new discoveries made by hackers after the recent Nintendo leak, with hackers recently discovering that Luigi was in fact present in and originally planned for Super Mario 64. Hackers have made plenty of new discoveries in just the past few days, and this surely won't be the last new discovery.
This has been a big year for Super Mario 64 fans. First Super Mario 64 got an unofficial release for PC, allowing for the title to run at a higher frame rate with a higher resolution and superior textures, followed by the release of the fan-made Super Mario 64 Maker, a program that allows for just about anyone to make their own dream hack of the beloved Nintendo 64 title akin to Super Mario Maker. And now, with the release of the source code of Mario 64, the possibilities are seemingly endless for the title. It should be exciting to see what Mario 64 content will come next.
