The success that Nintendo has had with the Super Mario franchise cannot be overstated. The persistant savior of the Mushroom Kingdom has seeped into almost every facet of popular culture since his debut over thirty years ago, extending Nintendo's influence in everything from clothing to amusement parks. Nintendo has thrived on the philosophy of operating like a toy company, and that mindset is bringing Super Mario to a new level of fun with the upcoming Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block LEGO set.

This isn't the first time Nintendo has collaborated with LEGO, as its Super Mario line has seen immense success since last year. This new set is unique, however, in how it pays tribute to one of the most important Super Mario games of all time. It looks to be an excellent collector's item for fans of the groundbreaking 3D platformer, and it opens up a host of opportunities for similar Super Mario sets. The franchise has come a long way since Super Mario 64, and this gives both Nintendo and LEGO the chance to turn this one set into a series of Super Mario celebrations.

A Super Mario Sunshine LEGO Set

It may be the odd one out compared to a lot of Mario's 3D adventures, but Super Mario Sunshine has too many colorful locales to not be translated into LEGO bricks. If a LEGO set based on Sunshine were to follow a similar structure as 64's, the best centerpiece would be Delfino Plaza and its Shine Gate. Then, the set could offer miniature versions of Pinna Park's rollercoaster or the imposing Corona Mountain. The set could also include microfigures for Mario's F.L.U.D.D. pack and Bowser Jr. as a way to celebrate his first appearance.

Super Mario 64 may have revolutionized 3D platforming with its thrilling gameplay and camera controls, but Super Mario Galaxy took that formula and put one of the most creative spins on it to date. Few could have expected Mario in outer space to work so well, but it has since become such an iconic Mario game that it's deserving of a LEGO set. The enormity of the Comet Observatory would begreat in LEGO form, and microfigures based on Rosalina and the Lumas would tie everything together. A Mario Galaxy set could even throw in references to Super Mario Galaxy 2 for fans that were disappointed by its absence in Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Nintendo has experienced an unprecedented level of success with the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Odyssey brought the plumber that fans know and love to a whole new level, adding a layer of adventure to the Super Mario franchise that's never been seen before. While encapsulating that reputation in LEGO form may be hard, a set based on the game could recreate anything from the Odyssey airship to the picturesque New Donk City. With anticipation building for a potential Super Mario Odyssey 2, a LEGO set based on the Switch game could get a lot of love from fans.

Nintendo's partnership with LEGO has been successful so far, and at this point there's no telling what new sets could come in the future. Many fans were already impressed by the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System, and this Super Mario 64 set looks like it could be just as impactful. If there was any question as to how Nintendo was fairing in markets outside of the video game industry, this Super Mario collaboration should put any concerns to rest.
