One dedicated gamer rebuilds the iconic castle from Super Mario 64 in Halo 5: Guardians‘ Forge mode, making it possible for players to wage war on it in multiplayer.
Fans are generally a good thing to have for any franchise, gaming or not. Sure, they help keep any given IP that they support a constant stream of cash–something that many experts would agree is vital for a business–but they can also be the reason that new players are drawn to a particular title. That’s why mods have become such a beloved aspect amongst community members, and eventually they’ll be coming to consoles ala Fallout 4 mods on Xbox One. In the meantime, other titles like Halo 5: Guardians have opted instead to allow loyal followers to build maps through a more formal means known as Forge.
This mode in particular has seen some great things come of it, with players recreating everything from Star Wars‘ ice planet Hoth to Spiral Mountain from Banjo-Kazooie. Evidently, these feats were just the tip of the iceberg, as one player that goes by the handle of ‘Bearskopff’ has managed to not only recreate the castle from Super Mario 64 in Halo 5, but do so with the mind-numbing precision of nostalgia-fueled surgeon.
Tragically, footage of the map doesn’t exist (yet), but there are a decent number of photos featuring the well-made battleground. We’ve been kind enough to track them down and put them into a gallery for your viewing pleasure. You can check them out below:
It’s incredible to see what dedicated players have been able to create within Halo 5: Guardians already, and there’s little doubt that there will be plenty more to come. With constant updates being applied to the game, Forge is very likely to grow substantially in the coming months through new items and assets. Provided that happens, creators like Bearskopff will be able to perfect the levels that they spend hours making, and the ability to then allow the less-crafty amongst us to experience the map for ourselves only makes the premise all the more alluring.
While the world waits for more maps that are inspired by other properties from both film and gaming alike, there’s certainly a level of intrigue in regards to how spot on these levels turn out to be. Things are looking good thus far, but only time will tell what creators have in the works.
Halo 5: Guardians is available now as an Xbox One exclusive title.
