If there’s one problem that 3DS owners have made very apparent it’s that there is a serious lack of software on their portable, and while Nintendo has promised to address this issue later this year, they have yet to set firm release dates for any one of their Triple-A titles that are currently set to hit the Nintendo 3DS this Holiday season.
Two of the biggest games currently set to hit the 3D-enabled handheld later this year are Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land – as both games are at the top of every Nintendo fan’s wish list.
Hot on the heels of the announcement that the 3DS would now be coming in a new color (Flame Red), MTV Multiplayer reported that both of the previously mentioned 3DS titles may have had their top-secret release dates spilled a little prematurely. The site claims that Nintendo reps initially gave them word that Super Mario 3D Land was coming on November 13, while Mario Kart 7 would be racing onto store shelves on December 4.
MTV has since updated the original article with the following statement:
“Nintendo reps initially gave us specific release dates for Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. Those dates have since been deemed “unofficial.” Currently the only official release time-frames are November for Super Mario 3D Land and December for Mario Kart 7.”
These dates seem like they could very well be legitimate, and they both land on a Sunday — a day that Nintendo loves to release their products on. It’s not like MTV just made up the dates either, mainly because they are a little too specific for any journalist to have the guts to just create out of thin air. Also, the last thing anyone in this profession wants to do is look like a complete idiot in front of readers.
I’d put my money on the odds that November 13 and December 7 are the currently scheduled release timeframes, but it would seem that Nintendo just isn’t ready to commit to a firm date for either game at this point in time.
Nintendo should be dropping some official release info for Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 soon, but for now eager 3DS owners can put a tentative marking on their calendar — in case there’s time you’ve got to take off right around these releases, of course.
