There's been a lot of talk lately about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, with most of the focus on the Bowser's Fury part of the game. This makes sense, as Bowser's Fury is a brand new adventure, featuring an open world game design, new power-ups, and more, whereas 3D World is a Wii U port. However, the Super Mario 3D World part of the game is getting some love, too, with the Switch re-release making various improvements on the classic Wii U game.

One of these improvements will be apparent to those playing Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury in co-op. As some may recall, Super Mario 3D World features bonus levels starring Captain Toad, which are little diorama puzzles that players need to solve to get Green Stars. In the original version of Super Mario 3D World, the Captain Toad bonus levels were single-player only, but that's changed in the new version of the game.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on the Switch makes it possible to play the Captain Toad bonus levels in co-op with up to three other players. One player controls Captain Toad himself, while the other players control other members of the brigade. Nintendo found a lot of success when it added co-op to Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for its Switch re-release, and so it makes sense that it's doing it again for the Captain Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

Fans can now see how the Captain Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World play out in co-op, thanks to a new clip shared by Nintendo of Europe. As can be seen in the clip, the levels will likely play out the same as they did in the original release, but now other players will be able to help instead of having to sit around and wait for the game to get back to a more traditional level.

Super Mario 3D World's expanded co-op options will apply to the Captain Toad levels as well, which means fans will be able to play them not just in local co-op, but in online co-op as well. The original Super Mario 3D World game lacked any kind of online co-op functionality, but the re-release has added it for the entire game. This should be especially helpful since the world is continuing to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic and it's even more difficult to get people together to play video games.

Nintendo Switch owners can try Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury expanded co-op options when the game launches next month.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury launches February 12, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
