Nintendo has revealed how long the new Bowser's Fury part of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will be. Nintendo also revealed whether or not the player will have to unlock the Bowser's Fury mode.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a port of the Wii U classic Super Mario 3D World, with Bower's Fury as an extra add-on. The game was announced for Switch back in September, although not much was revealed about the Bower's Fury mode in the initial trailer.

According to the new Bowser's Fury website, the standalone expansion will be not be a long game. Nintendo's Twitter also confirms that it won't need to be unlocked, and will available from the title screen.

In Super Mario 3D World, Bowser has kidnapped the Sprixie Princesses, and Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and the Blue Toad have to set out to rescue them. Rosalina was also unlockable in the original, and some signs have made fans think Princess Daisy might be unlockable in the port as well. The game allowed for multiplayer, with each player taking the role of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, the Blue Toad, or Rosalina and running through a level simultaneously. The players would have to both cooperate to complete the levels together, while competing to see who could get the highest score at the end of each level.

Bowser's Fury is a new, standalone add-on for Super Mario 3D World. Rather than playing as an extra level for Super Mario 3D World, it appears it will have a level design and gameplay more like that of a traditional 3D Mario game. Mario will be able to explore a fairly open world with a free-roaming camera while a second player will be able to control Bowser Jr. Every so often, Mega Fury Bowser (or God-Slayer Bowser, according to Japanese fans) will awaken and attack, which will change the level layout, as well as forcing Mario to avoid his Godzilla-like fire blasts.

However, with Super Mario 3D World being a port, and Bowser's Fury apparently being such a short experience, some fans might wonder if it's worth the $60 price tag. Even more, if Bowser and Bowser Jr. amiibo compatibility is taken into account and fans want to take advantage of that. That's a lot to pay for a game that quite a few people have played before, along with what amounts to a single, new, large level. Fans will find out if it lives up to the hype when it launches next month.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is coming out for Nintendo Switch on February 12, 2021.
