Nintendo has had quite the first quarter of 2021, releasing some big games that Switch owners have loved so far, such as Super Mario 3D World +Bowser's Fury. Though some players may have experienced Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U, this Switch port includes nice side content in the form of the short but fun Bowser's Fury mode.

Due in-part to many Switch owners skipping out on the Wii U entirely, a lot of players are experiencing Super Mario 3D World for the first time. So many players, in fact, that Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury has topped the Nintendo Switch downloadable games list in Europe for the month of February 2021, beating titles like Among Us, Minecraft, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The Top 15 downloadable Switch games chart comes by way of Nintendo, which sent out a news memo to Switch owners not long ago. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's fury takes the first place slot, followed by Among Us on Switch in second place and Minecraft in third. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury even topped the juggernaut that is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which consistently places high on sales charts from the NPD group. It just goes to show that plenty of Switch owners are hungry for any Super Mario content.

Super Mario 3D World +Bowser's Fury is selling incredibly well in a variety of territories. At the tail-end of February, Super Mario 3D World lead sales in Japan, beating out titles like Ring Fit Adventure, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It helps that Super Mario 3D World is one of Nintendo's most solid Mario platformers, with great level design, mechanics, and gameplay. The Switch port of the game even tweaked some of the mechanics, such as the overall movement speed, which makes for a smoother, snappier experience.

The rest of the Top 15 list is not too surprising, but some standout titles make the list including Little Nightmares 2 at number seven, which has been well-received by both players and critics. Mainstay Switch titles such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Pokemon Sword make the list as well, which is unsurprising considering how popular those franchises are. Additionally, another new release managed to crack the top ten, with Bravely Default 2 coming in at number nine just above Super Mario Party.

Beneath Super Mario Party is Super Mario 3D All-Stars, then Hades, followed by Breath of the Wild and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. However, coming in at the final spot on the list is another new release, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. All in all, the list isn't too surprising, with many of the games being new releases for February 2021 or being very popular games that play well on Switch. Still, it's nice to see Nintendo's flagship series taking the top spot after some time.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is out now, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
