On September 18, Nintendo will be releasing Super Mario 3D All-Stars, an impressive collection of critically-acclaimed Super Mario games comprised of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. In anticipation of the upcoming Super Mario 3D All-Stars release date, Nintendo has released a new overview trailer that details all three games included in the collection.
The trailer doesn't really offer any new information, but it does a good job of highlighting the unique features in each of the three Super Mario games included. It details Super Mario 64's innovative 3D platforming gameplay, while also touching on the Super Mario Sunshine FLUDD mechanic. When it gets to Super Mario Galaxy, the trailer is sure to note that the game has an optional co-op mode of sorts where the second player can assist Mario by stunning enemies and collecting star bits.
The Super Mario 3D All-Stars overview trailer also details the improvements made to the three games in the collection. This includes a higher resolution for all three games so that they look good on HD television sets, 16:9 screen ratio, and the music player mode that lets players listen to each of the games' soundtracks.
The trailer doesn't mention the one big gameplay change being made to Super Mario Galaxy as part of the 3D All-Stars collection. For the uninitiated, Super Mario Galaxy's motion controls are optional in 3D All-Stars, which will ensure that the game is playable on Switch Lite consoles. How exactly this will work has not been detailed by Nintendo, but fans will find out when they get their hands on the collection on September 18.
Meanwhile, some Super Mario fans may be holding out hope that 3D All-Stars has some other improvements in store. For example, there are those that want to see Super Mario Sunshine's inverted camera made optional. Unfortunately, it seems as though these games are more or less just straight ports to the Switch, and so it's unclear if more camera control options are being added to Super Mario Sunshine or not.
It's possible that Nintendo has some surprises in store when it comes to Super Mario 3D All-Stars, but then again, this kind of overview trailer could be to keep fan expectations in check. It gives players a rundown of what they should expect from the game so they don't go into it expecting any significantly improved graphics or new gameplay features. Regardless, though, each game in the collection has been critically-acclaimed without any kind of modern enhancements, and it should be a safe buy.
