When Super Mario 3D All-Stars was announced, the initial reaction from fans was one of delight. The genre defining Super Mario 64 would be returning to Switch, and fans of Super Mario Sunshine could finally enjoy the game again without breaking out their GameCube's but something notable was missing.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars included Mario's greatest 3D adventures, including Super Mario Galaxy, but that title's sequel was oddly missing from the set. This came as a huge disappointment to fans of Super Mario Galaxy 2, but new information makes this decision even more strange than before.

Nintendo recently revealed the title screen and gameplay for Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and the short clip has sparked a wave of outrage from fans. Though the animations of the title screen are great, the music used happens to be from Super Mario Galaxy 2, a strange choice considering that game isn't even in the bundle.

There are some things to note about this, however. For one, the title screen was shown on the latest episode of Nintendo Minute, and there is speculation that the music was added in editing and is not actually the title screen music. Likewise, the brief footage from Super Mario 64 is shown in a widescreen aspect ratio despite Nintendo confirming the game will be played in its original 4:3 aspect ratio. The theme is familiar to fans as the Power Star theme from Super Mario Galaxy, but astute fans will notice it is the Super Mario Galaxy 2 remix of the Power Star theme used instead of the original.

Naturally, this has caused quite an upset. Some fans are now even speculating that Super Mario Galaxy 2 could be added into the collection later. At this point, it is very difficult to tell given that the only thing fans have to go off of is a title screen that may not even actually represent the game's final incarnation. That said, Super Mario 3D All-Stars releases on September 18th, meaning fans don't have long to wait to get some answers.

Once the game releases, fans will at least be able to know if this title screen actually uses Super Mario Galaxy music or not, and maybe Nintendo will elaborate on its plans for the bundle later on. More likely than not, though, no new games will be added anytime soon, so Super Mario Galaxy 2 fans would do well to temper their expectations. The bundle is already impressive as is, so fans should enjoy what Nintendo has put together.
