Last year, Nintendo kicked off celebrations for the 35th anniversary of everyone's favorite Goomba-stomping plumber, Super Mario. Among different online events, promotions, special merchandise, and more, the monumental anniversary has brought fans all kinds of surprises, from a mixed reality Mario Kart game in the form of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, to a remastered collection of three fan-favorite Super Mario games for the Switch.

Prior to the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Nintendo announced that it would allow fans to complete a certain amount of My Nintendo Missions in order to nab some neat, limited-edition Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary pins. Missions ranged from being as simple as visiting a webpage online or registering in an online tournament, to requiring fans to purchase Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Just a few weeks ago, Nintendo confirmed that fans could complete more My Nintendo Missions in order to obtain a new set of 35th anniversary pins, but it seems that many fans won't even get the chance to do so.

Aside from some fans being unable to get their hands on the 1st set of pins thanks to low stock in the first place, many fans now will not be able to grab the 2nd set of Super Mario pins due to the nature of some of the My Nintendo Missions. To qualify for the newest pin set, fans must complete 14 Missions in addition to claiming their My Nintendo Gold Points for purchasing Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on February 12. But now, some of the Missions have expired, keeping fans from completing the required amount before the game's release.

Many fans just starting to complete My Nintendo Missions in hopes of nabbing the limited edition pins will only be able to complete 12 of the currently available Missions, and completing the required number 14 Missions is impossible for those who didn't complete 2 of the Missions which have expired. Many of the expired My Nintendo Missions are related to online tournaments for various Nintendo games, like participating in the Splatoon 2 Splatfest Online Challenge, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate NintendoVS Challenge Cup December 2020 event, and the Tetris 99 18th MAXIMUS CUP, among others. It is possible that Nintendo will add new Missions to help fans who were late to the party, but nothing is confirmed as of yet.

In addition to the Super Mario 35th anniversary logo, the pins in the newest set are based on iconic Mario titles such as Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Odyssey. While some fans still have the chance to grab the neat commemorative pins, they will still have to pay shipping in order to receive them.

Nintendo has announced that players who complete enough My Nintendo Missions will receive a redemption code for the pins on February 17 at 12:00pm PST. Super Mario fans can expect the series' 35th anniversary celebrations to continue when Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury releases next Friday.
