Nintendo is gearing up to celebrate the launch of its latest first-party game, Paper Mario: The Origami King on the Switch. After this release, Nintendo’s second half of 2020 looks pretty bleak in terms of first-party games, but after some snooping on Twitter, some fans may have discovered a Twitter account for the rumored Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary collection plans.

Back in March, VGC reported on several leaks from Nintendo that heavily featured Mario and his catalog of critically acclaimed games. The rumor suggests that Nintendo is going all-in to celebrate the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary by bringing various Mario games to the Switch. This leak also included that Nintendo would be producing a new Paper Mario game and shortly after the leak, Nintendo officially announced Paper Mario: The Origami King, seemingly confirming the full list of rumors.

Recently on Twitter, fans have come across a Twitter account that looks like a placeholder for potential Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary promotion and is possibly registered to a Nintendo email. Upon checking the email, most of it has been redacted by Twitter to protect private information, however, the Splatoon and Japanese Super Smash Bros. Twitter accounts are registered to very similar emails.

It doesn’t take much to register a Twitter account and it could honestly be a fan sitting on the account to troll Nintendo fans or hope Nintendo comes knocking. So while everything in the leak is lining up, this is still just a rumor until Nintendo holds another Direct or makes an official announcement.

Currently, after Paper Mario: The Origami King releases, Nintendo has zero first-party games scheduled for this year, and after not holding a Direct in June, fans are getting worried. If the rumor does turn out to be true, Switch owners can expect a heavy dose of Mario for their consoles, including remasters of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo has already started hyping up Mario this year by partnering with LEGO and recently revealed an NES LEGO set with a fake a Super Mario Bros. cartridge and TV displaying the game.

Nintendo needs to come out and announce its next line of games for the rest of 2020. Holding a Direct shortly after the release of Paper Mario: The Origami King would be a great start to get fans hyped for the rest of the year. Also, it’s crazy to think Nintendo would sit out of the backend of 2020 to stay out of the way of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Nintendo seemingly can do no wrong with Mario at this point, as Super Mario was just voted the most popular franchise, fans will flock to the popular mascot's games. If the Mario rumors turn out to be true, Switch owners have plenty to look forward to this Fall.
