Media Molecule is often the only name associated with LittleBigPlanet and subsequent games in the franchise, although the company only developed the first two titles and assisted with two others. The rest were worked on by other studios, including United Front, Firesprite, and Sumo Digital. Of these third-party studios, only Sumo Digital has been involved with more than one game, 2014’s highly rated 2.5D platformer LittleBigPlanet 3 and 2020’s Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

The UK-based developer was founded by members of the now defunct Infogrames Studios, which was the development house of publisher Infogrames in the 80s and 90s. In 16 years, Sumo Digital has worked on games in a range of genres, from Virtua Tennis: World Tour to Crackdown 3 to 2021’s action game Hood: Outlaws & Legends. The company has also been credited with co-developing titles like Hitman 1 and 2, Broken Sword: The Angel of Death, and Forza Horizon 4.

Of its long resume of titles, only Driver ’76 and Microsoft exclusive Crackdown 3 can be loosely categorized as shooters, and it seems that Sumo Digital is ready to add another game of that genre to its catalog. A recent job post on LinkedIn has revealed that the company is searching for a game designer who can assist in developing “a new AAA Shooter experience.” The job description specifies that the game is still in the early stages of development and will be an entirely new IP. The company's new designer will play a pivotal role in helping to create the title's core gameplay experience.

Sumo Digital is specifically looking for somebody with experience in combat design who can help develop and balance the weapons and abilities “that will form our launch line-up.” This wording implies that the game may have DLC expansions and/or be a digital service with regular content updates. Further insight into Sumo Digital’s new game comes under the heading “We Need You to Have” in the job posting, which states that the ideal candidate will have experience designing shooter games, “preferably online PvP Shooters.”

Other skills that Sumo Digital is looking for include knowledge of Unreal Engine 4, ideally three or more years of game development experience, and the ability to ensure that the various disciplines working on the new title understand what is required. Of course, applicants should be based in the environs of Sheffield, England, where Sumo Digital’s headquarters is located. The company offers a number of perks for employees, including relocation and visa support, learning days, access to online courses, an annual bonus, maternity/paternity leave, a pension, and life insurance.
