Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster gameplay clips showing off various special attacks have just been released. Suikoden is a series of role-playing games which started life out on the original PlayStation back in 1995. The game is loosely based on a famous classical Chinese novel and is best known for having 108 protagonists as inspired by the source material.

In 2022, developer Konami announced its intent to make HD remasters of Suikoden 1 and 2 for modern consoles targeting a 2023 release date. According to the information provided, the remasters will have new features, some quality-of-life adjustments, and upgraded graphics to help the game adapt to modern times. As the game continues with its development cycle, new information, footage, and details surface to provide updates on the status of the upcoming release.

The official English Twitter account of Suikoden just shared multiple tweets showing various in-battle special attacks with the updated graphics in effect. While the game retains its sprite-based look for the in-game characters, the clips show the new visuals and effects in action, a mix of 2D and 3D graphics. The three new in-game clips shown highlighted the attacks "Blue Gate Rune," "Family Attack," and "Double Monster Attack." Interestingly enough, the clips now look eerily similar to Suikoden spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicle, especially with the Unite Attacks being featured.

Suikoden 2 is considered to be one of the best in the series, and seeing all of these clips ups the nostalgia factor even more. While some may think that the over-the-top effects don't complement the sprite-based graphics, they also don't look too out of place, especially since games such as Octopath Traveler have gone a similar route previously to much success. However, some effects (such as those in "Family Attack") have constant flashes which might seem a little distracting to the average player. Perhaps, a good idea might be to provide some accessibility options to allow adjustments in the intensity of the effects.

It's great to be able to see more gameplay clips come out as gamers have been longing for new information to pop out. While fans might have to wait longer until the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster come out, having footage come out to show gameplay and the new presentation will help keep gamers invested in the title. The game is shaping up to be something to look out for in 2023, especially for fans of the previous iterations of the game.

Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster releases in 2023 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
