Ever since the finale of the Arkham series of games left fans craving more DC superheroes from Rocksteady Studios, rumors and speculations have run rampant on the internet over the next direction Rocksteady's DC universe of games would take, and a recent announcement has finally revealed that the next game will feature the Suicide Squad.

This comes as a bit of a blow to fans who were hoping that rumors of an open-world Superman game similar to Arkham Knight were true, as the character has notoriously bad games, but there are still a lot of reasons to get excited for the upcoming debut of Rocksteady's Suicide Squad, even if some fans are still longing for a Superman announcement.

10 EXCITED: UPCOMING MOVIE

The Suicide Squad game announcement comes along with the build-up to the upcoming live-action adaptation/sequel/reboot The Suicide Squad from director James Gunn, and while the game is not considered a tie-in, the timing doesn't hurt.

Fans will still have a bit of time to wait for Rocksteady's Suicide Squad game and will likely see Gunn's film first, but it's clear fans of Task Force X are set up to have a good couple of years with their favorite team of hardened criminals turned expendable operatives.

9 SUPERMAN: NEXT LOGICAL STEP

Fans spent a lot of time with the Dark Knight, his allies, and his villains over the course of the Arkham series, which ran for three main story games along with a prequel game from another studio and a handful of handheld options as well.

So when rumors of another DC game from Rocksteady starring a different popular character began to surface, the next logical step seemed to be to give the Man of Steel his own time to shine with a similarly well-made gaming experience.

8 EXCITED: THE WAIT IS OVER

Rocksteady Studios' early morning announcement was a surprise to fans who were waiting to see what was next from the Arkham developers, and in some cases, there are those who are just excited to hear an announcement of any kind.

Batman: Arkham Knight released in 2015, with the first game debuting in 2009, which left fans waiting for almost as long without a game as it took the original franchise to complete its story. So it will be nice for fans to be able to get excited for a new DC/Rocksteady game release instead of waiting for news.

7 SUPERMAN: NEEDS A WORTHY GAME

Unfortunately, one of the biggest reasons fans were hoping to see a next-generation Superman game is that the character has a terrible history in video games, with a long line of disappointingly unplayable games starring DC's Man of Steel.

Fans have seen the character go on to star in successful fighting games like Injustice or Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, but anytime Superman headlines his own game fans are left confused, disappointed, and/or angry, and hoping to one day see a well-designed, fun-to-play open-world Superman video game.

6 EXCITED: NEW CHARACTERS

While it's hard to beat playing as the Batman over an entire franchise of games, there was a lack of variety that each game attempted to fix with playable missions for allies like Catwoman, Robin, Nightwing, and even Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad game will have to introduce an entirely new cast of characters, and given the team nature of the game, fans can expect a number of DC villains to appear (and get killed off) in the upcoming game, giving players a number of new experiences and unique areas of untapped DC potential to enjoy.

5 SUPERMAN: DYNAMIC POWERS

While Batman's utility belt in the Arkham franchise offered fans a ton of gadgets and crime-fighting options that continued to evolve over the course of the series, there was the hope that a Superman game would introduce a new selection of powers and abilities.

Superman is known for his incredible strength, speed, and ability to fly, but the Last Son of Krypton also has powerful Heat Vision, Freeze Breath, and an assortment of other abilities that fans were dying to use in a Rocksteady game.

4 EXCITED: VILLAINOUS GAMEPLAY

Years spent playing the hero in the Arkham series and other similar vigilante games may have left fans of the "Renegade" options hoping for more, and the upcoming Suicide Squad game will allow players to dive into the villainous option.

Fans have already seen a few surviving members of the Suicide Squad like Deadshot and Harley Quinn appear in the Arkham franchise that teased the dark and violent nature of the characters, so gamers are definitely excited to get grim and gritty with the bad apples of the DC Universe.

3 SUPERMAN: ULTIMATE HERO

On the flip side, Superman is the Big Blue Boy Scout and fights for truth and justice as one of the DC Universe's greatest heroes, available to take on world-destroying threats or rescue cats out of trees as the ultimate superhero.

Batman's dark brooding vigilante from the Arkham series or the criminally expendable Task Force X from the upcoming Suicide Squad are both a far cry from the bright and hopeful Superman, who would provide a whole new experience to modern gamers.

2 EXCITED: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE

The first image released from the upcoming game featured Superman with a target sight on his head that revealed the Suicide Squad logo, which has given the impression that players will be hunting down Superman and possibly other members of the Justice League.

This coincides with previously leaked material and rumors that included the tagline "Kill the Justice League," and is something fans will definitely be waiting to hear more information about as Rocksteady reveals more over the next few months.

1 SUPERMAN: EPIC VILLAINS

While the upcoming Suicide Squad game is rumored to feature Superman and the rest of the Justice League as some of the "villains" of the upcoming game, there are a number of powerful Superman villains gamers were hoping to see in a video game.

Previous Superman games failed to adapt some of the powerful battles with super-strong villains like Metallo, Mongul, Doomsday, or Brainiac that really let Superman cut loose with his powerful abilities. But hopefully, Suicide Squad will still introduce some fun powerful villain alternatives.
