Suicide Squad director David Ayer has posted a never before seen clip of Jared Leto's Joker that didn't make it into the movie, and fans are clamoring for his version of the movie to be released.

The three-second clip, which was shown in the trailer but evidently didn't make the cut, was posted on Ayer's Instagram story and shared on Twitter by @kryptonscodex. It shows Joker with a burnt face as he says "you should be ashamed of yourself."

Suicide Squad was a critical flop when it was released in 2016, and the director himself has said previously said that the end product was not the film he wanted to release. Ayer has also openly said on social media that he would love to release a director's cut of the film, even saying that he would find it a cathartic experience. He believes elements of Suicide Squad that were torn apart, including Leto's Joker performance, would translate better in his version of the story. Fans of Ayer have campaigned for this, even starting a popular #ReleaseTheAyerCut hashtag.

This is not a unique story to the DC Extended Universe, with Zack Snyder releasing his director's cut of Justice League later this year. Snyder, unfortunately, suffered the loss of his daughter during the original production of the film and had to step down as director. Joss Whedon took his place, but the film didn't perform well critically and Snyder has openly expressed his distaste for the Whedon Cut. His version of the film, which has been deemed the "Snyder Cut" and is officially known as Justice League: Director's Cut, will be released on HBO Max in March of 2021. Snyder has also confirmed that it'll be four hours long.

Although there is no confirmed Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, it's been done before so it's definitely a possibility and fans seem to be here for it. Until then, there is a sequel to Suicide Squad directed by Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn coming out later this year. Some of the original cast is back including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, but Jared Leto's Joker doesn't appear to be returning.

The Suicide Squad is expected to be released on August 6, 2021.
