Rocksteady Studios, the acclaimed developer behind the Batman: Arkham games, hasn't put out a new release since 2016's Batman: Arkham VR, and so fans are understandably anxious to play the studio's next game. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is Rocksteady's next game, and it was expected to drop at some point later this year, but now it seems fans will have to wait even longer to get their hands on it.

Rocksteady co-founder and creative director Sefton Hill has confirmed that the Suicide Squad: KIll the Justice League release date has been delayed to an undetermined point in Spring 2023, meaning fans shouldn't expect to play it until at least another year at the earliest. Hill acknowledged that fans may be frustrated by the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date delay, but that this will allow the studio to make "the best game" it can.

It's likely that many fans saw this Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date delay coming. After all, it was reported last month that Warner Bros. had internally delayed Suicide Squad, and so for many it was just a matter of waiting for the official announcement. Even so, it has to sting knowing that there's such a long wait to play Rocksteady's next game, as its last release was a bite-sized VR title in 2016 and Batman: Arkham Knight released all the way back in 2015.

While it's disappointing that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now coming out later than expected, the bright side is that fans still have a DC Comics-based game to look forward to later this year. Gotham Knights has a release date set for October 25, allowing fans to play as various members of the Bat-Family as they work together in co-op to fight enemies from Batman's rogues gallery.

Gotham Knights is not set in the Arkham universe, but it is being made by WB Games Montreal, the same studio behind the Batman: Arkham Origins prequel. So while Gotham Knights isn't quite the same as being able to play a brand-new, Rocksteady-developed game set in the Arkham universe, it may still scratch the same itch for some people.

Releasing Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in the same year may have been detrimental to both games, as they would split the community's attention. Now fans can look forward to Suicide Squad releasing in 2023, and beyond that, there are other DC video game projects to look forward to as well, like the new Wonder Woman video game.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
