Unlike many games, particularly superhero-centric games, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League wears its main antagonists on its sleeve as a badge of pride. Knowing which villains are going to appear and be confronted in a superhero game makes up a lot of what is intriguing about these kinds of games. Still, in this game’s case, it makes sense to have the Justice League and Brainiac on full display immediately. Task Force X will always pale in comparison to how interesting the League is, but Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has a tangential way to make Task Force X more exciting.

It hasn’t been at the forefront of a lot of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s scattered marketing, but each of Task Force X’s playable protagonists will seemingly be equipped with a piece of technology in the DC universe. This is evident in Captain Boomerang’s Speed Force gauntlet and Harley Quinn’s bat drone, for example, but a brief glimpse during the game’s latest trailer also showcases villain memorabilia in its evidence lockup that probably appear as its villain set abilities. If so, the iconic Freeze Gun would make a great addition to the player’s arsenal.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Should Reprise Mr. Freeze’s Main Weapon

Mr. Freeze is a remarkably popular part of Rocksteady and WB Games Montreal’s Arkhamverse, and as such his role in the universe is unmistakably significant. Having had his introduction in Batman: Arkham City, Mr. Freeze was initially portrayed as a frail and pitiful man whom Batman was uncharacteristically backhanded toward.

This leads to their climactic boss fight, which fans still revere as one of the most considered and thoughtful boss fights in any superhero game to date. Freeze’s character is developed well this way and his prequel backstory in Batman: Arkham Origins’ DLC campaign was a great way to show how Batman and Freeze originally met, especially because it showed that Bruce Wayne does empathize with him for the tragedy he suffers through.

Freeze is then given a heartfelt goodbye as he receives bittersweet closure with his wife, Nora, and it would be quite alarming if he was to suddenly appear in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as an antagonist once more. Instead, it would be fantastic to see Freeze’s legacy in the Arkhamverse honored by having his Freeze Gun available as a villain set ability.

Indeed, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League teased villain set abilities with a Bane power buff, and Freeze could certainly have one of his own that lets players temporarily wield the Freeze Gun and immobilize hordes of Brainiac minions in blankets of ice. This could be a support ability that thwarts incoming swarms while other players rush in to quickly dispatch enemies that are frozen in place.

In this case, Deadshot players in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could probably make the most of such an ability since they could fly high above an area and cover the most ground with ice. Either way, this would be the best way for Rocksteady to pay homage to Freeze and also grant his weapon’s functionality to Task Force X in gameplay. In the meantime, while it is uncertain which villains will be referred to in this regard, it makes sense to have villain-set abilities in order to make ordinary gunplay far more dynamic with extracurricular powers. DLC plans also propose new playable characters, and the DC universe is ripe with options that could help spice it up further.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases on February 2, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
