Metropolis’ Brainiac invasion may seem like an ordinary event that citizens find themselves dealing with in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s DC universe, but it is particularly random when considering that this is occurring in the established Arkhamverse. It is fully likely that events such as this were happening all the time outside of Gotham City, but fans were none the wiser due to the Batman games being isolated incidents. Because of that, Rocksteady could still offer a lot of closure for characters who have been seemingly abandoned since.
Batman’s role in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is obviously a plot point on every fan’s mind, but it would be fun to hear what other characters from Gotham have been up to in the time between Batman: Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Of course, the game does need to answer that for Harley Quinn if it wants to make that connection succinct, but there are many others who are also deserving of a reference as to their whereabouts. The character who perhaps has the most ambiguity in their current role, though, would be Catwoman.
Catwoman’s Cliffhanger in Batman: Arkham Knight Should Be Resolved
Batman and Catwoman’s goodbye in Batman: Arkham Knight is touching, even if Batman continuously refuses to allow himself to show any emotion during it. Catwoman did not appear in Batman: Arkham Asylum, but her role in both Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight lend a lot of charm to the sequels that keep her elusive yet endearing.
Catwoman’s morality is put to the test in Batman: Arkham City before she eventually chooses to rescue Batman—because choosing not to results in a ‘game over’ screen. Unfortunately, Catwoman is largely kept as a damsel in distress during Batman: Arkham Knight’s Riddler side quest thereafter, though these intermittent sequences are incredibly fun since fans can swap to playing as her.
Players free her and their goodbye afterward is especially poignant if players are adamant about achieving the Knightfall Protocol conclusion. It is unknown if Catwoman believed Batman to be dead since then, or where Selina Kyle has been since her days in Gotham, but Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could have the answers to those questions.
Catwoman Could Easily Be a DLC Character in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
It would not be out of the realm of possibility to imagine that Catwoman left Gotham after she assumed Bruce Wayne had died, and it would be exciting to see her show up in Metropolis to try robbing someone wealthy before Brainiac’s invasion started. Likewise, Kyle may have turned over a new leaf and decided to put her thieving antics to bed, though there is a much more inspired idea that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could lean on.
It was revealed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League plans to introduce new characters as post-launch DLC, and Catwoman would make a great addition that is already firmly established in the Arkhamverse continuity. It seems like every character added will need to viably wield all the different guns that Task Force X is seen with, and Catwoman is not commonly known to have guns herself.
That could likely be arranged anyhow depending on how criminally inclined she is at this point in the narrative. Regardless, it would be fantastic to catch up with Rocksteady’s interpretation of Catwoman and either close the book on her character or open up a new chapter with her as a new member of Task Force X.
