Director James Gunn seems to be the gift that keeps on giving, as he constantly reveals new information about his upcoming film The Suicide Squad. On social media, he has now revealed that the film includes the “coolest action sequence” that he has ever shot and it includes Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.

Gunn was all praise for Robbie, claiming that he was the “most impressed [he] ever was with a performer” while working with her on said action sequence. Even though he doesn’t confirm the specifics of the scene, the information has gotten fans excited. With The Suicide Squad rated R, most fans expect the sequence to include a lot of blood and gore, and just from seeing Quinn in action in the official trailer, they may not be too far off.

As part of The Associated Press' summer movie preview, Gunn first spoke of the scene. Referring to it as his “favorite four minutes of film,” the writer-director revealed that he specifically wrote the scene keeping Robbie in mind since she is truly able to represent Quinn’s character and is athletic enough to perform the stunts. Glimpses of Quinn engaged in battle are visible in The Suicide Squad's trailer and many fans are convinced that is the scene Gunn is referring to. Sadly, they will have to wait till the film releases to be certain.

The scene in question took days to shoot and Gunn confirmed that “hundreds of camera setups” were used to capture it in its entirety. When a DC fan questioned whether the entire scene will be in the film, Gunn was quick to inform them that the four-minute sequence will be a part of the movie, “loud, brash, and uncut.” The fan's concerns were based on another project in the DCEU, Justice League, that promised to introduce Superman in his black suit. However, when Joss Whedon took over the project from Zack Snyder, those scenes were deleted, leaving many fans feeling disheartened.

With a little over two months to go before The Suicide Squad arrives, the anticipation is already quite high. Fans are looking forward to Gunn’s take on the story of the anti-heroes and seeing what the director brings to the DCEU after working on Marvel’s extremely popular Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.  With a whole bunch of new and returning characters, fans are prepared for the roller coaster ride that has only been teased in the trailer so far. But, they shouldn’t get attached to any characters because Gunn has previously hinted at several deaths in the film.

Apparently, the actors already knew whether their character lives or dies at the end of The Suicide Squad when they signed on, as revealed by Gunn in one of his tweets. It remains to be seen which ones will be able to survive the R-rated bloodbath.

The Suicide Squad releases in U.S. theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
