Sucker Punch and DC Comics to Release inFAMOUS Comic

inFAMOUS fans eager to continue the story of Cole MacGrath will now have something to hold them over until InFAMOUS 2 releases. Developer Sucker Punch and DC Comics have teamed up to release a new 6-volume series that will cover the lengthy time period between the two games, showing MacGrath's attempt to save Empire City before escaping to the city of New Orleans, <cough>, I mean New Marais.

The comic series will be written by William Harms and illustrated by artist Eric Nguyen. The story "will reveal sinister motives, dark secrets, and introduce a new threat to Cole and all of mankind," which appears to be a creature called "The Beast."  The cover art for the series will be drawn by Doug Mahnke, who is known for his work on major DC properties such as Justice League America, Batman, and Green Lantern. A sample of his work can be seen above. It's good to see that the artwork is staying true to the original vision of Cole MacGrath as opposed to the proposed changes to his look for inFAMOUS 2, which caused a huge uproar with the series' supporters.

inFAMOUS fans will be able to score their copy of the comic series from retailers at a cost of $2.99 per issue and at starting March 2011. Sucker Punch also announced what gamers could expect to see in inFAMOUS 2:

Offering a more emotional and powerful point of view on the true superhero experience, inFAMOUS 2 finds Cole battling a new evil, known only as “The Beast.” Cole barely survives a tangle with “The Beast” in Empire City and flees to the historic Southern city of New Marais in search of the key to destroying this new darkness. He must learn to control his evolving powers and once again choose to be righteous or infamous.

According to a recent trailer for inFAMOUS 2, MacGrath will be dispensing justice in New Marais after it appears to have been hit by a Hurricane Katrina-like flood. Besides "The Beast," racist rednecks appear to be the main target of his wrath. Controversial topics to be sure and they may not go over too well with Southerners. Hopefully, the comic series will provide a good backstory for inFAMOUS 2, so that the game doesn't feel exploitative.
