Subnautica: Below Zero, the sequel to Unknown Worlds Entertainment's underwater survival game Subnautica, left early access this month. The game returns players to the ocean world of 4546B, this time in the far north.  In order to survive in the hostile polar waters, players must scavenge, craft, and explore.

Just like in Subnautica, players will be spending a lot of their time diving deeper and deeper to discover the planet's secrets. The deepest biome in Subnautica: Below Zero is known as the Fabricator Caverns. The Caverns are home to the Fabricator Base, a key location in the game's story. However, reaching the Caverns can be a real challenge for even the most well-prepared underwater explorer.

Setting out to the Fabricator Caverns in Subnautica Below Zero

Before players begin any expedition toward the Fabricator Caverns, they'll need to make sure they're properly equipped. Having a compass is essential, as well as a Seatruck with the Depth Mk3 module upgrade, and the Perimeter Defense upgrade. Starting from the lifepod, players will need to head directly southeast for about 800 meters. This route should take them through the Thermal Spires and Purple Vents biomes until the seafloor drops away sharply.

Turning northeast here, players should begin a vertical descent through several cave entrances into the deepest part of the Purple Vents biome. At a depth of 325m, players should turn northwest, and pass between two purple vents to find the entrance to the Crystal Caves biome. It's quite easy to get lost in this area, so it's worth leaving one of Subnautica Below Zero's beacons at the entrance to mark the path. Once inside the Crystal Caves, players should stick to the left wall, gradually descending along with the cave floor to a depth of about 600m.

Finding the Fabricator Caverns

The Crystal Caves are home to a pair of Shadow Leviathans, one of the most deadly sea creatures in Subnautica Below Zero. The Shadow Leviathans will attack by attempting to grab the player's Seatruck. Fortunately, a blast from the Perimeter Defence upgrade will be enough to escape. As players reach 600m along the left wall of the Crystal Caves, they'll want to look out for a trio of Jade Membrane plants. These plants are above a low stone ceiling, marked with several small purple crystals.

From the Jade Membrane plants, players should head east-northeast for another few hundred meters. Over this time they'll descend further to around 680m. Eventually, players should begin to encounter large red crystals jutting out of the walls of the cave. These crystals indicate the entrance of the Fabricator Caverns biome. Simply follow the crystals to the Fabricator Base and the next revelation in Subnautica: Below Zero's story.

Subnautica: Below Zero is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
