Games that involve a lot of crafting often require the player to do a lot of exploring in order to collect rarer and rarer resources as one progresses up the tech tree. To make the best tools and devices, survival games like Subnautica task gamers with delving deep into various biomes to loot precious metals and gems.

Rubies in Subnautica are a red crystal-like substance that is needed for quite a few basic and advanced crafting recipes, so players should always keep an eye out for these crimson gems as they harvest natural goods from the ocean-covered planet.

Updated on October 3, 2021, by Reyadh Rahaman: Some of the most crucial items in the game need Rubies to be crafted, such as many modules that allow various vehicles to descend further into the depths of Planet 4546B. If one wishes to get anywhere in Subnautica, figuring out where to find Rubies is one of the first big steps.

Additionally, the biomes that players will find Rubies often hold important other features, such as the crucial Fragments needed to learn the recipes for many items. Be sure to explore each biome carefully, as there are tons of goods to uncover in a large number of these undersea habitats--just keep an eye out for carnivorous creatures.

Where In These Biomes To Look For Rubies

These spiky red stones appear near thermal vents, so be sure to stay near those while exploring some of the biomes listed above. Divers should consider looking for Rubies at night, as they glow slightly, which makes them stand out easier in the dark than during the day.

What Rubies Are Used For Crafting

Items That Need Rubies To Be Crafted

  • Aerogel
  • Prawn Suit Pressure Compensator MK 1
  • Cyclops Depth Module MK 1
  • Seamoth Depth Module MK 3
  • Power Cell Charger

Aerogel, an advanced material, is required for a lot of high-tier recipes, such as those for certain vehicles and more. A single piece of this light and airy material requires 1 Gel Sack and 1 Ruby and is crafted using a Fabricator.

If players want to descend further into the depths with their Prawn Suit, it is recommended to use 1 Plasteel Ingot, 3 Nickel Ore, and 2 Rubies to craft the Prawn Suit Pressure Compensator MK 1 using a Vehicle Upgrade Console. A single unit of this upgrade will allow one's Prawn Suit to travel 400 meters deeper thanks to increased hull integrity.

Similar to the Prawn Suit Pressure Compensator MK 1, the Cyclops Depth Module MK 1 grants the ability to travel further into the abyss by 400 meters due to increasing hull integrity. To craft it, players will need to use 1 Plasteel Ingot and 3 Rubies with the Cyclops Upgrade Console.

Just like with the other depth and pressure-related modules, the Seamoth Depth Module MK 3 will enable the specified vehicle, in this case, the Seamoth, to travel deeper underwater, however, this MK 3 variant allows one to safely dive a massive 700 meters further down than before. Players can craft this handy upgrade at a Modification Station using 1 Plasteel Ingot, 3 Rubies, and 1 Seamoth Depth Module MK 2.

In terms of energy efficiency and recycling, the Power Cell Charger is a must-have for players wishing to re-use spent Power Cells instead of crafting new ones. It can be crafted against an indoor wall with the Builder tool if one has 2 Titanium, 2 Rubies, and 1 Advanced Wiring Kit in their inventory.

Why Players Should Start Collecting Rubies Early

By simply looking at what Rubies are used to make, players will see that they are essential for creating both basic and advanced technologies. Fabricators are always immensely useful, as without them the player would not be able to craft important items.

Devices that allow one to upgrade and build vehicles, as well as structures, also need Rubies, making these red gems precious for many reasons.

List Of All Other Raw Materials

While Rubies are vitally important to many aspects of Subnautica, there are a lot of other Raw Materials that players should seek out for their building needs.
