"Darling it's better, down where it's wetter, take it from me!" Subnautica is immensely popular with loads of players trying to survive in the watery depths of a foreign world. Famous YouTubers like Markiplier have even gone through the entire game for their fans (in a 78 part series nonetheless).

With Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero having recently come to Nintendo Switch, players might want to dig into the game with new eyes and try new things they've never experienced before. The game holds lots of secrets and fun activities that players may have never tried but they absolutely should.

Updated on June 25th, 2021 by Emma Majoros: Subnautica became one of the most popular games in recent years by allowing players to challenge themselves and take on the scary depths of the oceans. Everything can be found in this alien ocean, so perhaps the most intriguing part of the game is exploring what this world has to offer. Here are a few things not many players found out throughout the gameplay that could come in handy while exploring and taking over the dark depths of this foreign world.

12 Tame A Stalker

Subnautica Stalker Teeth Guide

A lot of players never learned that it's possible to tame Stalkers in the game. It doesn't last forever, but while it does, the Stalker is a wonderful ally.

Players just need to feed the Stalker any kind of catchable fish or offer it metal salvage. Once tamed, the Stalker goes out and brings metal salvage to the players to give them as a gift.

11 Geyser Cook Some Fish

Subnautica: Below Zero Geyser

It's time to go fishing, with geysers! Who has the time to actually cook things up in a kitchen these days, especially when marooned on an alien planet surrounded by water? Players can use geysers to quickly cook fish in the game.

Any fish that die from geyser eruptions instantly turn into their cooked food forms. This can be quick, and also hilarious to make happen.

10 Get Out Of Jail Free Card

Subnautica: Below Zero Ghost Leviathan

When it comes to fighting large creatures that creep up behind the player, sometimes they have to rely on their reflexes, and the best chance of survival is running. For times like this, every player should have an air bladder in their inventory at all times.

Apart from being an asset when deep diving with low oxygen, it can also prove to be effective when being attacked, because it can create enough thrust to shoot players out of the water. Talk about fight or flight. But players should be careful when using it, as it's so strong, it can sometimes propel the character into a rocky outcropping, killing them.

9 Ditch The Goggles

Ditch The Goggles

Subnautica is an absolutely beautiful game but unfortunately, one thing can get in the way: goggles. There is a screen effect that makes it look like the player is looking out of goggles they are wearing underwater.

It looks particularly rough on wider screens and can spoil the visuals of the game. A lot of players don't realize they simply have to press F6 and the visual effect vanishes in an instant!

8 Fly A Skyray

Subnautica: Below Zero Skyray

Who needs an escape rocket when they can just fly on a Skyray? Players just need to head to the floating island in the game and wait patiently for a Skyray to fly by.

Players can then jump on and soar into the sky! It's honestly quite the hilarious glitch because seeing such a tiny critter somehow lifting a full-sized human into the sky is utterly absurd.

7 Get The Rare Cyclops Greeting

Subnautica - Cyclops

Most players never get this adorable greeting from their Cyclops, as it's incredibly rare to see happen. It may take several tries, but players can get the Cyclops to greet them by saying, "You are the best captain on the planet, I'm not even squidding."

It's not only punny, but of course, the player is the only captain on the planet. Cyclops have jokes, it seems!

6 Reaper In: The Disappearance Act

Subnautica: Below Zero Reaper Attack

Don't fear the Reaper! Well, that's easier said than done. Players can go full David Copperfield and literally make the Reaper vanish off the map. It's a great way to deal with this ferocious beast and makes exploring easier.

If players get into a Cyclops, they can attempt to ram into the Reaper as hard as possible. If done correctly, the Reaper will literally vanish from existence in front of the player, not returning until they exit and reload the game.

5 Use Geothermal Energy

Subnautica: Below Zero Tree Spire

This "hack" is best considered before even building a base. If players build their base around the Tree Spires, the Geothermal vents scattered across the map provide enough energy to maintain a medium-sized base without any attention needed.

Of course, nuclear power provides way more energy, but that requires periodical maintenance. Meanwhile, Geothermal energy provides natural resources that players can take advantage of. The only negative to building around the Tree Spires is the Leviathan that roams nearby, but if players are careful, they can be safe.

4 A Clever Way To Save Looted Items

Subnautica: Below Zero Beacon

Players can easily use a beacon to retrieve lost items if their character dies. The beacon will mark the location where the loot was dropped, making them easier to find after respawning.

Characters will only drop new loot when dying, so sometimes even a beacon can't help. However, it's best to take a beacon along when mining valuable materials, because the scariest creatures always show their ugly faces in the wrong moments.

3 Make Yourself At Home – Take A Seat

Subnautica: Below Zero PDA

There are only so many ways a player can cut corners when it comes to their food and water meters. Sitting is one of the easiest ways to stop these meters from declining while reading on the PDA or just taking a break.

Whenever players feel like stopping for a few minutes, or they need to read something, it's best to take a seat and let the character take a breather. Build benches and chairs within the base for a place to relax.

2 Raymond Run

Raymond Run

Managing to "Raymond Run," as speedrunners have dubbed it in Subnautica, takes some specific setup, but it can be absolutely worth it in the game. It's hard to find a faster way to move across the map.

To activate the glitch, players need to die while riding on a Rabbit Ray from its radiation. Then, players can glitch through platforms to be flung off in one direction at breakneck speeds. It's sort of like the Endless Stair Glitch in Super Mario 64.

1 Speedrun The Game

annoying enemy that teleports the player.

So many players get lost exploring the fantastic underwater worlds of Subnautica they forget that the game actually has an ending. Sometimes, racing to the finish can be an absolute blast!

It's easier than ever before to get into speedrunning, and Subnautica offers an incredibly unique experience for players that want to speed through it. There are loads of categories for runs as well, giving players plentiful options on how to play the game.
