While Subnautica is already an immensely fun game, there have been quite a lot of fan-made ideas for this title that objectively improve the quality of life as well as introduce new and fascinating elements. With mod support and some player ingenuity, the gaming community has put together quite a few awesome mods.

The best of which make things more convenient and efficient, allowing for the player to spend more time exploring and building as opposed to having to dedicate precious minutes to inventory management. However, this is not all that is capable of the best mods, as some introduce features that feel like they should have been in the vanilla version of this aquatic adventure.

10 Decorations Mod

mod that adds new decorations.

With 118 new cosmetic items, the Decorations Mod is one that players should get first if enhancing the look and feel of a seabase is the primary goal. There are a ton of assets from the vanilla game that have had their scale and properties altered so that they can become neat little desk decorations or fancy ornaments for a player's home.

There are new containers, dolls, posters, furniture and much more! Just don't go overboard and cram a single room full of all 118 new items, for some of them are quite large and deserve their own space for the best aesthetics.

9 BlueprintTracker

mod that pins blueprint recipes to the screen.

As the blueprint recipes become more and more complex, players will likely need to check the components for them repeatedly, which can become very tedious very quickly. It also breaks up the gameplay and forces one to stare at a menu instead of swimming freely through an alien ocean.

Thankfully, the BlueprintTracker mod alleviates this annoyance by letting one pin a blueprint recipe to the screen. It keeps track of everything in one's inventory that contributes to this particular recipe for optimal convenience. If one does not like where the recipe is pinned, they can even move it to a different corner of the screen.

8 Resource Monitor

screen that displays the numbers of available resources.

Keeping track of the many resources that one will collect in a playthrough can be a challenge, however, there is a mod that can assist the player in logging the materials in their base.

The Resource Monitor mod will introduce a display screen that players can mount to any indoor wall that will not only display all items in the storage lockers of the structure but will also allow one to take items out of this monitor screen, which will pull them from their place in a storage locker. Furthermore, this monitor can be mounted in a seabase or a Cyclops for even greater usability.

7 Slot Extender

mod that increases slots when in a vehicle.

The limited number of slots that are available while in a vehicle can make one's Seamoth or Prawn Suit feel a bit lacking. Remember, this is space-age technology that was made by the same group of individuals who build spaceships, giant lasers, and more; so having a personal submarine that can only do 4 things at a time feels unrealistic.

Players seeking to upgrade their smaller vehicles should install the Slot Extender mod, which grants a total of 12 shortcut-bound slots so that one's undersea cruising can become more convenient than ever.

6 AutosortLockers

lockers that sort themselves.

As mentioned before, sorting out one's inventory and storage lockers can be a huge drag that can suck some of the fun out of this great game. Ridding oneself of some of the tedium can be accomplished by installing the AutosortLockers mod, which makes available lockers that sort themselves.

Simply make and place them in the desired structure and then dump everything that needs sorting into the locker labeled "Autosorter" to have one's materials and resources distributed to the designated lockers.

5 EasyCraft

fabricator about to make an item.

While crafting in Subnautica isn't rocket science (despite being able to craft an actual spaceship), there are aspects of it that can definitely be optimized.

EasyCraft is another handy quality of life mod that makes a core mechanic of this game, fabricating, even easier. Now, a fabricator will be able to use all items stored in one's seabase (or Cyclops) when creating the desired object.

4 MoreCyclopsUpgrades 5

consoles in the mod on a cyclops.

The behemoth of a vehicle that is the Cyclops is impressive, even compared to the deadly and colossal leviathan inhabiting the world, however, some players find it a bit lackluster in the modules department. Many assume that after creating a Cyclops, they can use it as a portable base, though, it sadly lacks some features that would make this an ideal plan.

Don't toss those hopes aside, as the MoreCylcopsUgrades 5 mod lets gamers use their massive submarine to its maximum potential by granting much-needed power solutions as well as upgrades that grant greater engine and propeller performance for enhanced speed and maneuverability.

3 MoreQuickSlots

more quick slots on the hotbar.

This one functions much like the Slot Extender mod, however, the MoreQuickSlots mod is meant for the player's hotbar as opposed to that of a vehicle. Many have always found it odd that there are 9 tools in the game but only 5 quick slots.

With this novel yet simple mod, players can now have all their tools (and then some!) instantly accessible whenever they need them, as it should have been in the vanilla version of the game.

2 Map

mod that adds a map to the PDA.

Simply named and easy to use, the Map mod is arguably one of the best mods for Subnautica to date for how immersive and intuitive it is to use. A map (that can be filled out while exploring) is integrated into the PDA under the beacon management tab and allows one to see the world around them in more detail than ever.

Players can use this handy map to track things with the utmost ease and the feedback given by this new feature will show useful information such as topographical data, biome types, and much more.

1 Nitrox - Multiplayer Mod

multiple players in the same world.

For a singleplayer game that was never intended to have multiple people in the same world, the Nitrox -Multiplayer Mod is arguably the most impressive, innovative, and desired add-on to the game. With well over 600,000 downloads on Nexus, players have made it clear that they want to swim around and build seabases with their pals.

In addition to the ground-breaking modifications to adjust the game's framework to accommodate multiplayer connections and online play, the creators of this mod have also implemented some important features that sync up player movements and define how they can interact in a way that's not bug-ridden and inconvenient. Players seeking to add a whole new layer to their Subnautica experience should grab a friend and try this mod out online.
