As players explore the deep oceans of Planet 4546B, they will inevitably come across some strange things. Using the Scanner, players can not only get information about these plants, animals, and alien objects but also unlock recipes to make new items at the Fabricator. Some Subnautica: Below Zero players may have noticed that they unlocked a blueprint for a Thermos, but even after crafting one it is unclear what the purpose of this item is. Put simply, the Thermos can be used to store Coffee and keep it hot, allowing the player to have a portable source of heat.

Given the environment of Planet 4546B, Subnautica: Below Zero players would be forgiven for thinking that there wouldn't be any coffee here. Surprisingly, though, all players need to do is fabricate a Coffee Vending Machine and then they'll have an infinite supply of the coveted beverage.

As mentioned before, the Thermos can hold hot coffee. If the player approaches a Coffee Vending Machine, they can place an Empty Thermos inside. After about 17 seconds, the Thermos will return full of Coffee that the player can now carry around with them. Drinking the Coffee gives an impressive bonus 50 warmth but has the unfortunate drawback of subtracting two water. Under most circumstances, this trade off is well worth it, especially considering Coffee can be made infinitely.

Coffee

Players unlock the Thermos blueprint at the same time as they unlock the Coffee Vending Machine blueprint. In order to do this, find a Coffee Vending Machine somewhere else and use the Scanner on it. Players can find Coffee Vending Machines for scanning at the Architect Phase Gate Facility, Delta Station, Omega Lab, Phi Robotics Center, and Outpost Zero. Once the recipe has been unlocked, they can be created with two Titanium by using the Habitat Builder. Finally, players can get a Thermos by bringing both Titanium and Glass to the Fabricator.

Since Coffee can be made infinitely with no energy costs or other setbacks, it's a good idea to have one of these on hand most of the time. It only takes up one slot in the inventory, and can mean the difference between life and death if the player gets caught somewhere cold without another source of warmth. As far as anyone knows, there are no other uses for the Thermos, so players don't need to worry about crafting one at all if they aren't planning on using it for Coffee.
