While the depths contain many threats for the player, the above-water portions of Planet 4546B can be equally deadly due to a hostile climate, fierce predators, and more. Subnautica: Below Zero has 4 kinds of Above Water Biomes, each frigid yet unique in their boons.

These bits of land are far and few in between, though they are crucial to certain parts of the story. Gamers will have to leave the relative familiarity of the water to venture through blizzards and among Snow Stalkers to learn more of this planet's mysteries. Therefore, getting to know what each of these dry destinations has to offer in terms of resources and points of interest can come in handy.

Arctic Spires

above water biome with huge ice spikes.

Easily distinguished from the other Above Water Biomes by the monolithic spikes of ice emerging from the ground, the Arctic Spires can be just as intense as it looks. The jagged sudden peaks that break up the landscape can sometimes become shrouded in pale fog that can disorient players. While the Arctic Spires are definitely worth visiting, particularly for acquiring Snow Stalker Fur, be careful of the Ice Worm Leviathan that makes this location its hunting grounds.

Delta Island

island biome with story importance.

A rocky site that shows clear signs of human development, the player will have to come here multiple times during their playthrough for numerous story-related reasons as well as for the resources it provides. While, like all Above Water Biomes, it can get quite cold here, the natural hot springs and Thermal Lilies can make traversing Delta Island more bearable than other places.

Glacial Basin

above water bione with very busy terrain covered in ice.

When traveling to this circular location, be sure to bring a Spy Pengling (and maybe a backup one), as the Glacial Basin is the Above Water Biome with the most places to make use of one's robotic ally. This location was formed from the passing of a massive glacier, which has carved out a rugged valley in the icy surroundings. There are plenty of caves, nooks, and crannies in the Glacial Basin that are full of loot, including Snow Stalkers and their prized fur. Additionally, there are various sub-biomes to be found in this expansive maze of ice and snow, so be sure to look around thoroughly.

Glacial Bay

bay in an icy island and an above water biome.

Showing signs of heavy influence by the Alterra Corporation as well as vibrant plant life, the Glacial Bay biome is a key point that connects to both the Arctic Spires and the Glacial Basin. Of all the Above Water Biomes, this one is among the least dangerous, alongside Delta Island, for there are no predators here. The frigid temperature can still cause issues of the unwary, but by the time the player finds this location, they should have a few methods of staying warm. With that said, this is a great place to find a bunch of lesser-seen resources.
