One recent study details the most sought-after used video games and consoles that avid players are searching the market for. According to survey results, Minecraft and a surprising console came out on top. Gamers love to add to their collections, and the second-hand market has always been popular for finding true treasures at bargain prices. Just recently, unreleased NES games hit eBay and sold for thousands of dollars. Interestingly enough, the survey also found that there has been a 60% increase in Google searches for pre-owned titles and gaming systems in just the last month alone. This is possibly showing a new trend emerging. Instead of snagging the latest tiles at full price, fans prefer to find the best deal they can.

Players' new buying habits result from how much more expensive things are these days compared to when some of those consoles and games first launched. Most of the games and systems are no longer available at retailers, leaving gamers with no choice but to head to secondary markets. Funny enough, last month, one player found a forgotten Blockbuster video game rental that's 15 years overdue. Today, the days of renting video games are long gone, but the results of this recent survey outlining which is the top-used console and game may surprise some players.

The survey indicated Minecraft was the most popular title searched for in the second-hand market, having 5,700 copies sold recently. Regarding which console gamers want to get their hands on the most used, Sony's PlayStation 4 came out on top. Minecraft first launched in 2011 and gained a considerable following. The PlayStation 4 debuted just two years later, in 2013. While some gamers are still trying to get their hands on PlayStation 5 units, it's interesting to see that others are going back a generation just to get their hands on a console.

Following closely behind Minecraft was the newest Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, where 5,500 copies of it were sold online. Despite the latest entry in the franchise suffering from a multitude of glitches and bugs, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 set a new PlayStation Store record. In third place was Grand Theft Auto 5, with 4,400 sales making their way into eager gamers' hands.

The survey also indicated what consoles gamers want to play these popular used games on, and the PlayStation 4 sold a total of 13,000 used units very recently. Following closely behind it was an older handheld, the Nintendo DS, which came out almost 20 years ago, back in 2004. Finally, the third most popular used console was Nintendo Switch which has been out since 2017. Used Xbox Series X consoles were not on the list, probably because of just how hard they still are to obtain. The Xbox Series X was however the best-selling console on Black Friday, showing some gamers are willing to shell out big bucks for one at a discount. Either way, players will find a way to find their favorite console one way or another.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
