The Mass Effect franchise is one of those games that has a mass appeal. All games in the series are super popular for their decision-making aspects, storyline, and exploration. Mass Effect offers a vast universe full of characters and planets, each of which is full of history and lore. It has been three years since the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda and people are looking forward to another one. The reason is simple; people love the game's environments, gameplay, and characters.

Another primary reason for that has to be the exciting species in the game. There are easily over thirty mentioned species in Mass Effect. But which one of these are the strongest ones? There isn't an easy way to conclude this based on one aspect. So let us judge them based on their versatility.

10 Elcor

Mass Effect Elcor

Elcors are often seen as an elephant-like species. And although they are missing a trunk, their general body language and casual style strongly indicate an elephant-like persona. An Elcor life span is five times that of a human. The Elcor species is known to be one of the few ones to establish a trade route to the Citadel in less than one lifespan. In terms of strength, they are incredibly powerful beings, since their planet has an unusually high gravity. However, their slow nature stops them from being very powerful in other areas.

9 Quarians

Mass Effect Quarians

There are a few human-like bipedal species in the universe of Mass Effect, and Quarians are one of those. From far away, most people will not be able to guess if its a Human or Quarian standing in the distance. But up close, there's a significant difference in the feet, hands, and face structure. Quarians are incredibly intelligent species and have an exceptionally high understanding of synthetics. They are known to be the creators of Geth, which is a Quarian like species based on networked artificial intelligence.

8 Salarians

Mass Effect Salarians

One of the first few species to join the Citadel, Salarians are incredibly smart amphibians. The species is known for its hyperactive metabolism, causing them to speak fast, think fast, and work quickly. They are super intelligent and inventive when it comes to working. They are also very keen on experimenting and building things, making them the geekiest species in the Mass Effect universe. Salarians have significantly helped Krogan species, and their only downside is their excessively short lifetime.

7 Turians

Mass Effect Turians on a ship

Turians are the most badass looking race, but that is not the only reason behind their confidence. The Turian race is known to be well versed with weapons and military equipment and for having a strictly disciplined nature.

They are the third primary race to join Citadel and have successfully deployed a biological weapon called the Genophage to sterilize the Krogan race. Their strength is clearly in numbers, making them one of the most dangerous species in Mass Effect.

6 Protheans

Mass Effect Prothean

Protheans have to be one of the most prominent races in the story of Mass Effect. The species is known for building a massive empire across the galaxy after emerging from a single planet. They are an immensely intelligent species that is credited to building Citadel and Mass Relays, the two things which are the core of Mass Effect games. Their scientific prowess is unmatched.  However, despite that, the species is known to have vanished  50,000 years ago. Reapers are said to be the reason for that and created an enigmatic race called Collectors from Protheans.

5 Krogans

Mass Effect Krogan

Easily one of the most robust species in the Mass Effect Universe. Krogans look deadly, but they are much worse when they are angry. The species resembles the killer croc from the Batman, but technologically much more advanced. As powerful as they seem, their main drawback has to be their anger. They are known to have destroyed their homeworld in a nuclear war that could have otherwise been avoided. They are also suffering the effects of biological weapons at the hands of Turians, slowing their otherwise incredible birthrate.

4 Geth

Mass Effect A.I Geth

Geth is one of the unique races on the list. They bear a striking resemblance to Quarians because they are a product of Quarian technology. Something that was initially built to serve, the AI of Geth grew beyond and became sentient.

This self-awareness also made them one of the most dangerous species in the universe, even stronger than their creators. The scariest part of this species is their singular consciousness, essentially making them a network of unerasable data.

3 Reapers

Mass Effect Boss Fight Reapers

Reapers are the main antagonist of the Mass Effect series, so it is evident that they are one of the strongest species in the universe. They are a unique hybrid of synthetic and organic material and are known to reside in the dark space. Reapers are known to be created by an ancient aquatic race called The Leviathans. Reapers are nearly massive starships built to dominate species and harvest the galaxy's sentient lives. If their size isn't scary enough, the fact that they are probably devoid of any emotions makes them more powerful than any other species.

2 Asari

Mass Effect Romance Asari

However, as huge as reapers are, they're probably not as skilled at the level of Asari. The blue-colored human-like species is one of the most powerful ones in the universe of Mass Effect. Unlike Krogans, their power isn't in the brute force but rather the highly intellectual thought process and biotic aptitude. They are capable of manipulating biological species and are very persuasive. What makes them more dangerous is that they are mono-gender and live for at least a millennium.

1 Humans

Mass Effect Commander Shephard

In a general sense, Humans are not the strongest species in the Mass Effect universe. However, from another perspective, they are one of the fastest rising races at the Citadel and a prime factor in beating reapers. Humans are known to be highly adaptive with great survival instincts. They are pretty good at technology, psychology, strength, mobility, and speech. Making them one of the most balanced species in the Mass Effect series.
