Street Fighter 5 has been out now for nearly four years and still going strong. Even though the game received glaring reviews from the critics, but the community, on the other hand, was quite divisive when it came to the fifth iteration of the popular fighting game series. Fans have been asking Capcom to make a bunch of changes to the game, one of which is changing the online net code for a lag-free multiplayer experience, but so far, Capcom has not altered the multiplayer experience at all. Some of the community members are waiting for Street Fighter 6, assuming that Capcom will listen to their feedback and make necessary changes to the next game, including an improvement to the net code.

It looks like fans might finally get their wishes with a new Street Fighter game. Even though Capcom hasn’t officially announced or confirmed anything regarding the release of Street Fighter 6, but it’s safe to assume that the game is in the development pipeline. It’s highly likely that the next installment in the Street Fighter series might be coming out in 2021, just in time for the PS5 and Xbox Series X release. Although it may not come out on both the platforms, it certainly would be a next-gen console release. The potential release window of Street Fighter 6 comes from Capcom in a recent Capcom Pro Tour announcement.

Usually, the winner of the Capcom Cup gets a free entry to the next Capcom Cup. The recent Capcom Cup 2019 winner is iDom who’s auto-qualified for Capcom Cup 2020, but according to the company, the winner of Capcom Cup 2020 won’t qualify for Capcom Cup 2021 which heavily suggests that there will be a Capcom ProTour 2021, but it won’t be for Street Fighter 5; instead, it may or may not be Street Fighter 6. Previously, the Street Fighter 4’s Capcom Cup 2015 winner didn’t auto-qualify for Capcom Cup 2016, since Capcom Cup 2016 featured Street Fighter 5 instead of 4.

If this historical evidence is any indication, then it’s safe to assume that Street Fighter 6 will drop in 2021 along with its ProTour for the year. Now, this does not mean that Street Fighter 6 will definitely come out, it could be another game including but not limited to Marvel Vs. Capcom, Darkstalkers, or even Tekken Vs. Street Fighter. Only time will tell what Capcom has in store for its fighting game fans, but for now, they’ve added both Gill and Seth to Street Fighter 5, making it the first Street Fighter game to feature all main villains.

Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition is available on PC and PS4.
