This past week, Sony announced an upcoming PlayStation State of Play event for June 2. Since then, speculation has gone into overdrive as PlayStation fans theorize what games could be featured or announced. One Capcom game, in particular, is commonly being brought up. That game is Street Fighter 6, the sequel to the industry's most successful fighting game franchise. It's believed that Capcom will take the opportunity PlayStation is offering to fully unveil Street Fighter 6 during the event. One common source pointed to as starting the conversation regarding Street Fighter 6's potential announcement is Games Beat's Jeff Grubb. Grubb is a reliable source for industry information, particularly with regard to E3 and other summer gaming events. Following the announcement of Sony's State of Play event, Grubb posted on Twitter that, "This is probably where SF6 shows up." It's hardly an official confirmation, but Grubb likely feels confident about it.RELATED: Street Fighter 6 Logo Looks Almost Identical to Adobe Stock Photo ArtTo elaborate on Grubb's point, he says that he isn't absolutely sure when Street Fighter 6 will be announced. However, he does say that Capcom is "supposed" to have the Street Fighter 6 announcement prepared for one of the summer events. Further, he says that he expects Street Fighter 6 to be featured at the EVO fighting game tournament event in August, but that the game will already be properly revealed by then.

Street Fighter 6 has already been officially announced, of course. A short cinematic teaser trailer was released in February featuring Ryu and Luke, who debuted in Street Fighter 5, as well as the game's logo. Street Fighter 6 wasn't necessarily a secret, however. The massive Capcom leak from 2020 showed that Street Fighter 6 was tentatively planned to launch in Q3 FY2022. A reveal of Street Fighter 6 is coming soon, clearly, so it's just a matter of when.

If Street Fighter 6 does get shown off, there's a major question that will need to be answered alongside it. Street Fighter 5 is a PlayStation console exclusive. It launched on PC and PS4 and hasn't been ported to other platforms since. Some attribute this decision to why Street Fighter 5 has struggled in comparison to Street Fighter 4. The Capcom leak implied Street Fighter 6 would be coming to different platforms, but a reveal during PlayStation's State of Play would hint otherwise.

It's unclear what other event would make sense for Capcom to reveal Street Fighter 6 at, at this point. The Summer Game Fest live show is on June 9 and will host a variety of major publishers. Xbox's show is on June 12, but it'd be shocking for Capcom to jump over to PlayStation's competitor. A Capcom event could be announced yet, but seems unlikely. The PlayStation State of Play seems prime for a Street Fighter 6 announcement, though fighting game fans will just have to wait and see.

Street Fighter 6 is in development.
