Street Fighter 5 producer Yoshinori Ono confirms that the upcoming cinematic story mode to be released in June will take most players between 1 to 2 hours to finish.

After a long beta session which kicked off in the middle of last year, the highly anticipated Street Fighter 5 has finally released on PlayStation 4 and PC and players can finally battle it out online. While fans have been aware of the many modes available on day one thanks to the game's strong marketing campaign, many have wondered if the story would finally catch up to the likes of what NetherRealm Studios has been putting out with their recent games.

While Street Fighter 5 does come with a story mode out of the box, Capcom is calling this version a prologue to the main story, intended to introduce characters to players and setting up the main conflict. Gamers won't get the full story until the full fledged cinematic story mode is released sometime in June for free to anyone that has a copy of the game. Reviews have indicated that the story prologue is fairly short for each character, featuring storyboard images in place of cut scenes, followed by a couple of fights before the credits roll.

Surprisingly, in a new video from Street Fighter 5 producers Yoshinori Ono and Ayano, the cinematic story mode won't take players long to complete either. When discussing how this story mode will aim to connect Street Fighter IV to the events in Street Fighter III, Ono confirms that players won't get all the answers they seek from just playing the prologue. Instead, players will need to play through the cinematic story in June, which Ono confirms will take players 1 to 2 hours to play through. Oddly enough, both men agree that the size of this mode could have been enough to be sold separately, though it's entirely possible that was a tongue in cheek moment considering the flak Capcom has gotten in the past for their DLC practices.

The news may be somewhat disappointing to fighting game fans who have seen a sort of renaissance for story modes in fighting games. With games like Injustice: Gods Among Us, Killer Instinct, and both Mortal Kombat 9 and X setting the standard for robust storytelling in fighting games, many fans were hoping that Capcom would be able to join that list. While the campaign for Street Fighter 5 doesn't appear as lengthy as those other games, at least there is a story mode at all, which will hopefully provide answers to the many questions the series has brought up over its long running lifespan.

Do you think one to two hours is enough time or were you hoping for something a little more substantial, especially with the extra development time?
