It turns out that Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition is not coming to the Nintendo Switch, at least for now. Long-time Street Fighter Producer Yoshinori Ono took to Twitter to shoot down rumors of the port, saying "Such item does not exist right now. Thanks!"

In a now-deleted Twitter post on January 25, EB Games Canada announced that Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition was being released for the Nintendo Switch and was available for preorder. While neither Nintendo nor Capcom confirmed this information, most fans took the announcement at face value. Many fans were excited by this announcement, as this would have been the first time Street Fighter 5 would have been playable on the Switch in any form.

EB Game Canada has since issued an update through twitter, saying that the initial tweet was "inaccurate and posted in error."  The images of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition displayed in the tweet were actually from the Playstation Four version of the game, not the Switch version. E.B also apologized for any "disappointment or confusion" caused by the tweet.

Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition has a PlayStation 4 release date of February 14th, 2020. The game will feature 40 characters, 34 stages and more than 200 costumes. It will have most of what's been released for Street Fighter 5, with a few notable exceptions. The game will not include the Fighting Chance and brand collaboration outfits, or the Capcom Pro Tour DLC. Also, anything released between January 10 and February 14 also won't be included in Champion Edition. The game will be bringing back Gil, the final boss of Street Fighter 3, as a playable fighter.

It's clear that many fans were excited by the prospect of the game coming to the Switch. As of now, there is no portable way to play Street Fighter 5, so, for now, Switch fans will have to settle for playing Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Edition. It's possible that the positive reaction this news received will make Capcom consider porting the game to the Switch, but currently, there are no plans to do so.

Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition will be available for the PlayStation 4 on February 14.
