The EVO 2019 fighting game tournament is set to begin on August 2 and run through Aug 4, with the tourney showcasing some of the biggest fighting games out there, like Super Smash Bros., Mortal Kombat 11, and Street Fighter 5. EVO is changing it up this year, though, as the featured card and final bout focuses on Smash Bros. instead of Street Fighter 5, but that's not to say there weren't some planned surprises for the latter.

Unfortunately, this surprise was ruined by a premature reveal Wednesday, where a video announcing 3 new characters was posted to Steam but quickly taken down. This Street Fighter 5 video announced the return of both E. Honda and Poison, and also showcased a newbie known as Lucia. According to said video, which has now been officially released by Capcom, these characters will be available for the fighting game on Sunday, August 4, the final day of EVO 2019.

The next day, these characters can be purchased together as part of a "Summer 2019 character bundle" that will likely result in small savings across the 3 characters. It's worth adding that the Street Fighter 5 video showcases a little something of everyone, including their story, battle, nostalgia, and summer costumes. Plus, it draws attention to what players can expect from this new EVO 2019 character DLC.

E. Honda first originated in Street Fighter 2, with the most recent incarnation of the character sticking to the original. It was also revealed that Honda's bathhouse stage will also be added as DLC. Poison and Lucia come from Final Fight 3, with the latter now being a member of the Metro City Police Department who has nightstick- and fire-based attacks. E. Honda's V-Triggers power up his grapple and flying headbutt moves, whereas Lucia's powers up her aforementioned fighting styles.

These characters are the first to join the Street Fighter 5 roster since Kage back in December 2018 and will hopefully breathe some life into the fighting franchise. It's no secret that the past year or so has seen a notably content drought for the game, a possible reason it was booted from the featured card slot for EVO 2019, but this new DLC will be hard for fans of the franchise to ignore.

Street Fighter V is out now for PC and PS4.
