Since Street Fighter 5's debut in 2016, Capcom has continued to support it. Initially releasing to mixed reviews, due to the lack of content and minimal roster, subsequent DLC and updated releases have helped bolster the game into a better light. These updates gave it significant technical overhauls, with Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition in 2017 and Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition in 2020 adding plenty of new and old characters such as Akira from Rival Schools, the returning Dan Hibiki, or newcomer Luke. The latest update to the game, touted as the Definitive Update, will be coming to Street Fighter 5 very soon too. This was announced via a video posted on Capcom's social media channels, which detail every single facet of this upcoming update. One of these will be a new Balance Update to the game's roster. No specific details have been given on which parts of each character in Street Fighter 5 have been changed, though presumably those changes will be divulged to fans at a future date.RELATED: Street Fighter 6 Logo Looks Almost Identical to Adobe Stock Photo ArtOne of the biggest parts that was announced through this definitive update will be a variety of new cosmetic changes and filters. One of these filters is the Cel Shading Filter, which gives the characters and backgrounds a distinct anime-looking aesthetic. This makes some of the action and special moves in Street Fighter 5 appear more stylized, which meshes really well with the game's current art direction. The other filter, known as Pixel Filter, gives the game a rougher aesthetic, and makes it look like Street Fighter 5 was being displayed on an arcade cabinet. It should be noted that both of these filters are only available in offline play.

The other cosmetic update will add plenty of new colors for the tracksuit alternate costume in Street Fighter 5, where all characters in the roster will be receiving eight color palette swaps with this suit. Finally, five new songs from the Cap-Jams team will be added in this update, adding remixes for all five characters that have appeared in the fifth season of Street Fighter 5's DLC. This update will be available for fans to try out on March 29.

With this definitive update, it's possible that Street Fighter 5 will be taking a backseat after many years of support. With Street Fighter 6 being announced last month, more attention will be given to its development. Not much is known about this next mainline entry of the long-running franchise, other than a short teaser trailer showing Ryu's grizzled look, a photorealistic artstyle, and the game's logo. Capcom told fans to expect more news about Street Fighter 6 coming this summer.

Street Fighter 5 is available now for PC and PlayStation 4.
